I’ve been watching the final season… I’ve almost finished (on the second to last episode). I don’t think the final season is as bad as everyone is saying it is. I agree that the series has been in a decline since Season 2/3. Honestly, Season 5 gave the perfect setup for a Spacey-less Season 6.

If anything, I’m enjoying all the wonderful actors on the series. I imagine that the acting branch of the Emmys will seriously embrace the cast for its final season (much as they did they did 2 years ago when the series scored 8 acting nominations). …especially given the increase in star power and with Game of Thrones out of the way.

Here are the serious contenders for acting nominations:

Lead Actress in a Drama Series: Robin Wright (Prob. will win the Emmy)
Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Diane Lane
Supporting Actor in a Drama Series: Michael Kelly
Supporting Actor in a Drama Series: Campbell Scott
Supporting Actor in a Drama Series: Greg Kinnear
Guest Actress in a Drama Series: Patricia Clarkson
Guest Actress in a Drama Series: Jane Atkinson
Guest Actor in a Drama Series: Lars Mikkelsen

Also former Emmy-nominee Constance Zimmer’s got a shot… assuming she does something more/bigger in the last two episodes (which she might not). Otherwise, Diane Lane will probably get the vote for the nomination in Supporting Actress given that she is a movie star in a TV role.

It is not happening, is going to be completely shut out or with just one nomination for Wright, without chances for a win. The 8 nominations were for season 4 which was the best season of the show for the vast majority of people, this season has been destroyed without any mercy, I have not seen it yet, but season 5 was very mediocre according to almost everyone and the nominations decreased A LOT, there were only 3, but Kelly is not coming back, Wright is uncertain and Spacey does not need clarification. Also, there are more good dramas with every year, the completion is getting stronger and stronger, not a chance. Also, SAG nominated the cast only twice for season 2 and season 3.

What a complete mess. I’m so mad at this show because they made it seem like they couldn’t make it work without Kevin Spacey. That gives him way too much credit. They could have easily made it work, but they just made an absolutely brutal final 8 episodes that seemed to completely forget the tone, story structure, and trajectory of the series they had created for 5 previous seasons. The writing was just atrocious. It made no sense. Plot lines were begun that abruptly dropped. Plot twists were jarring and out of place. It wanted to hit you over the head so bad with its “Times Up” messaging. I just can’t believe how bad this was.

If you quit the show at some point and you have no intention of continuing, feel free to watch this clip from the final season and see for yourself how big of a mess it was.

The second thing I thought after watching that video: Is Kevin Spacey campaigning for Robin Wright to win?
