All I disputed was her ability to beat Coel. Hopefully Piper goes comedy at BAFTA and not drama because they both deserve wins.
Yeah I was just saying there was a reason I was talking about her performance so much!
I hope she goes Comedy too. Both gave phenomenal performances and I know BAFTA usually put dramedies in drama but considering they put Sex Education in Comedy (despite the TV Academy for some weird reason moving it to Drama because of the abortion storyline) I hope they do the same here with I Hate Suzie and place it in Comedy because as you said both of them deserve to win and both Coel and Piper gave the best performances of the year on television IMO.

ReplyCopy URLNovember 21, 2020 at 12:03 pm #1203853231Ok yeah, I watched the first episode and it’s really good. Piper is great. It’s over the top aesthetic is a little dizzying-I think I May Destroy You did that in a cleaner, more subtle and effective way, but I also gather that this is going to be lighter than that so it isn’t totally a flaw. I’m in for the season.
November 21, 2020 at 5:21 pm #1203853705Piper gets to play every possible emotion. She has more material in 8 episodes of television than most actors get in their entire careers. It truly is a masterclass, and if voters actually watch, she will win an Emmy.

November 25, 2020 at 11:20 pm #1203874157I’m kinda worried this is gonna get zero attention apart from critics in the US, nobody seems to know about it

It probably should be noted that Roxane was paid (presumably by HBO Max) for these specific “#ad” tweets. She may indeed love the show, but it’s not necessarily the same kind of organic (non-paid) social media praise we’ve seen for other shows.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 27, 2020 at 12:21 am #1203876966It’s a reach, I know, but does anybody envision a world where Leila Farzad gets attention if the show really takes off? I thought she was great as Naomi.

For me she’s the Sian Clifford of the show so I can see her slipping in somewhere.
If the show goes Drama at BAFTA I think she’s going to get into the 6 slot supporting actress lineup there.
I’m on my first re-watch now (when I see a show I like I often tend to re-watch afterwards but also when I see another show in the same genre I like I watch the show I was previously raving about again just to eliminate any recency bias which is what I’ll be doing with I May Destroy You next) and you notice on the second watch (particular in the second episode Denial) how it’s like a Wimbledon semi-final watching her and Piper on-screen. Piper is the MVP of the show by far and gives the performance of the year but Farzad doesn’t get enough credit she deserves.

November 27, 2020 at 10:39 am #1203877684I could definitely get behind a Lelia Farzad nomination. She’s making my final line-up for 2020 (albeit in the comedy category).
ReplyCopy URLNovember 27, 2020 at 11:09 am #1203877729She was paid wtf? Seriously? That’s idiosyncratic. Well at least we know Jodie Comer, James McAvoy, Edgar Wright and that girl from The End of The F***ng World (the last one posted about how she watched it on HBO Max) are all up in arms promoting and raving about this show.
I should have said I assume she was paid for these tweets since she used the #ad hashtag. Public figures/celebs generally only use that hashtag when they get paid to promote something on social media.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 27, 2020 at 3:17 pm #1203878225At worst, I feel like Suzie is gonna be a Buffy / Battlestar / Community / Americans / Pen15 / Shadows etc and just get a writing nominations .
ReplyCopy URLNovember 27, 2020 at 3:26 pm #1203878242Karen Gillian (who ironically later starred on Doctor Who years after Piper left and is also known for her role in the MCU and Jumanji) tweeted that she just binged the whole show and raved about Piper’s performance.
Amy supporting Rose we love to see it.
