I’m in the UK so I’ve just finished the final two episodes and I continue to be blown away by this show.

This show is so amazing! Stunning, raw and real. Michaela Coel is a genius.

Michaela Cole is a pretty fantastic writer and performer. This is a deeply moving show and while difficult to watch at times, when you’re in the hands of an excellent storyteller you know putting your trust in them will pay off. There’s no agenda. This show deals with the discomfort and levity of life extremely well. Which is not an easy accomplishment.

The critics and awards websites better push Michaela Coel and I May Destroy You like they did Waller-Bridge and Fleabag because they’re genuinely comparable (Coel probably gives a better performance actually). I’d like to see the same energy.

    For Your Consideration:

Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)

I really do think Coel’s performance here is quire revelatory, particularly as the series progresses, and very obviously superior to PWBs. That said, I do not anticipate awards replication, which is unfortunate. Her direction is incredibly strong too, particularly in episodes 9 & 10, and it goes without saying that the writing is some of the most powerful and incisive on TV.

I’ve been bad and totally skipped ahead, b/c I just couldn’t wait until August or September for this series to conclude. This goes to some really dark places in the coming episodes, and yet it’s grounded with bits of needed levity here and there for balance. Michaela Coel’s mind, bitches! I just can’t. I have no hope that the Emmys will remember this next summer, which is terrible, but whatever. Greatness stands on its own terms. I’ll keep the updates going regardless.

    Episode Title: “The Alliance”

Synopsis: Much to Terry’s disapproval, Arabella attends a support group for rape and sexual assault survivors run by their high school acquaintance, Theo. In a flashback to 2004, teenage Arabella and Terry intervene when a resourceful, troubled young Theo attempts to flip the narrative on consensual sex gone sideways.

    Discuss.

Just watched the series finale, and it’s mad divisive! Yikes. It’ll be interesting to see what the reactions to it will be.

Anywho, “The Alliance” introduced the new character of Theodora, played by Harriet Webb. The character isn’t a one-off. Adult Theo sticks around in the main storyline throughout.

Watched the first five episodes and I am fascinated about this series. I loved the way Michaela choose to tell this story, giving time, specially the flashback episode in Italy. It’s moving, fantastic and extremely revelant.

Guys I have some bad news:

When the initial viewing figures of HBO shows from May 2019 to now are taken into account I May Destroy You has the second lowest viewership of any HBO show (only beaten by the first season of Sally4Ever).

    https://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/hbo-tv-show-ratings-33447/

FYC Emmys : Jodie Comer ("Killing Eve"), Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials"), Russell Tovery ("Years and Years"), Helena Bonham Carter ("The Crown") & The Crown, His Dark Materials, Years and Years, Succession and The Affair in all categories. The Politician : Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bette Midler and Judith Light.

FYC Goldderby Awards : MAURA TIERNEY AND DOMINIC WEST FOR THE FINAL SEASON OF THE AFFAIR

With this being an imported series and HBO dumping it in no-man’s-land Monday night time slot, the news shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

The best show of the year with one of the most incredible performances I’ve seen!! Michaela Coel is astonishing in this. Her directing, writing, and acting… An incredible feat to take an event of one’s private life and turn it into a public, entertaining story. This show is relevant and it’s the first time that I’ve really felt like I’m watching real young people behaving and getting ready to go out to the club; usually it feels like an adult wrote and directed.

The show is getting great buzz not just for famous people and critics but I am seeing a lot of people binge watching and falling in love. If you search on Google you will see a lot of articles saying why you should watch the show and big raves. It’s what she deserves!
