The finale should win drama writing (I’m pretty confident in a second season and it’s not a comedy). It completely fits with the high quality of recent winners (Succession, The Americans). I can’t imagine anything being better, more daring or more fulfilling.

    For Your Consideration:

Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)

I don’t think they should submit as Drama. It really to me feels perfect as a one and done (although obviously that’s Michaela’s decision not mine).

I hope they submit in Limited at the winter awards because Coel has no chance in Drama anywhere apart from Critics Choice in those awards whilst I can see her winning the Globe in Limited.

But yes the series should win Limited Writing never mind Drama Writing. Could it win Drama Writing? Well we have to wait and see the quality of The CrownRatched and the other Drama contenders yet to come this year but I’ll rank it solidly ahead of both Perry Mason and Lovecraft Country in Writing quality.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

The Crown is relatively conventional (though obviously written well) and would be an unimaginative winner if Michaela is nominated against it. Ratched simply won’t offer something on the level of the IMDY season finale.

I’ve seen some indications that Michaela is contemplating another season. Also, limited in my opinion is more packed than drama. This is balanced out by the limited field being more likely to be receptive to the half hour format. I’ll wait to see how the field pans out this autumn.

Yeah no I wasn’t saying that those were better than I May Destroy You finally (which is one of the best written episodes of television ever imo) but I think we should wait until we see how the field pans out because there are still tonnes of shows yet to air (i.e. The Crown) although unless this season of The Crown goes to season 2 levels of writing quality or beyond (which is quite possible) I don’t see it being better than that finale.

Well, there it is, the best episode of the 2020-21 television season, and it aired in August!

I’m kidding except I’m not, can’t imagine anything surpassing that or this as my favorite program of the year. What a fucking brilliant, thought-provoking, piece of work.

The fascinating and groundbreaking thing about “I May Destroy You” is its effortlessness in evolving into a different show on a weekly basis, so the question was not only how would this season’s story wrap up in the finale, but how would that story be told in the same innovative style that has been a landmark of this series? I don’t know that I could’ve predicted this route, and yet it makes the most sense and provides the most logical ending to the show that I could’ve asked for. There is a lot to unpack here and it necessitates a rewatch of the episode and the full season, but the bold decision to give us every ending and find peace within each one was immensely satisfactory. It was a total achievement and a perfect way to end this season. If we don’t see another season of “I May Destroy You,” we can take solace in the fact that this season nailed the landing as a complete and whole work, and was capped off by one of the best episodes of TV of the year.

I personally don’t want to see a second series. I felt Arabella’s story wrapped up quite nicely.

Gosh my heart at points in the episode.

I sincerely apologise to anyone competing against Coel for acting and writing.

Shira stanning. Comer also mentioned Michaela when discussing her selected show. We need and love this promo.

I’m getting more and more confident in IMDY’s awards chances now. Multiple actors on the Emmy pre-show have mentioned it, Sarah Paulson recently said in an interview for Ratched that it’s ‘the best thing I’ve seen in a long time’. Actors clearly have connected with it. Hopefully the critics recognise it at the winter awards and it can build from there.

Me too. I think it’s a Succession/Fleabag waiting to happen.

Let’s not forget that it even got performer of the week twice on TVLine which is quite rare for a first season show for both Michaela Coel and Lewis Reeves. I mean at this stage I think it at worst ends up like Succession season 1 at the Emmys because whether she wins or not Michaela is a lock in Writing imo.

“HBO Boss” Casey Bloys about I May Destroy You:

Will I May Destroy You be back for another season?

It’s not going to come back for another season; well, I don’t think it is. We’re following Michaela Coel’s lead. I don’t think that she has any more of that story she wants to tell. But if she called us tomorrow and changed her mind and wanted to do more, I’d be happy to do more. I think she may be thinking of what she wants to do next.

Do you have a deal with her?

No, as far as I know, nobody does. But working with her is a priority.

If the show doesn’t come back, will the show compete in the limited series category?

Assuming that she doesn’t want to come back, which I feel like is the case, that feels like it would work in the limited series category.”

Nice to get confirmation. It ended perfectly, although Coel is such a strong writer that I’m sure she would’ve crafted a great follow up season. Now we need the industry buzz to continue to build through the autumn/fall season.

I have a feeling this could sweep the TCAs next year. Hoping that also translates to a strong showing at the Emmys.
