I’m getting more and more confident in IMDY’s awards chances now. Multiple actors on the Emmy pre-show have mentioned it, Sarah Paulson recently said in an interview for Ratched that it’s ‘the best thing I’ve seen in a long time’. Actors clearly have connected with it. Hopefully the critics recognise it at the winter awards and it can build from there.

    For Your Consideration:

Carrie Coon, ‘The Gilded Age’ (no I haven’t seen it, but we have no choice but to stan anyway)

“HBO Boss” Casey Bloys about I May Destroy You:

Will I May Destroy You be back for another season?

It’s not going to come back for another season; well, I don’t think it is. We’re following Michaela Coel’s lead. I don’t think that she has any more of that story she wants to tell. But if she called us tomorrow and changed her mind and wanted to do more, I’d be happy to do more. I think she may be thinking of what she wants to do next.

Do you have a deal with her?

No, as far as I know, nobody does. But working with her is a priority.

If the show doesn’t come back, will the show compete in the limited series category?

Assuming that she doesn’t want to come back, which I feel like is the case, that feels like it would work in the limited series category.”

Nice to get confirmation. It ended perfectly, although Coel is such a strong writer that I’m sure she would’ve crafted a great follow up season. Now we need the industry buzz to continue to build through the autumn/fall season.

I have a feeling this could sweep the TCAs next year. Hoping that also translates to a strong showing at the Emmys.

The drama field looks so empty for the precursors at the moment. I hope the Limited category placement pays off because it looks more competitive both in series and in actress.

I’m really curious how this show will perform at the guild awards. So many actors and writers praised it.

I believe everything apart from WGA.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

Ironically the one it deserves the most. Actors clearly love the show and Michaela, but SAG is known for very basic choices so I have my doubts. It needs the critics groups and BAFTA.

She’s getting in at BAFTA and the show will get into Series there. I assure you. Whether she wins for acting there is a question considering how competitive that category looks set to be (especially when Billie Piper and Keeley Hawes are getting raves) but I think she has a strong chance at Writing there. The fact that Succession will be ineligible in Writing at BAFTA will surely help her.

I meant globe/cc/bafta wins, I should’ve been more clear. A SAG nom would be amazing though, but as I said, getting it will be difficult despite the vocal support from actors.

I don’t usually agree with Reggie Yates on everything but I really feel what he says in the beginning of this interview with Michaela Coel for GQ. As a Londoner who grew up in a working class family near a council estate and lived in a diverse area I really felt like I May Destroy You captured the London I know. Often when you see portrayals of London on television it often seems to be quite white washed and this idea that people who grow up in London are just “middle class” or “elitists” is often portrayed on screen when in reality that’s not the case. The writing and Coel’s ability to jump through comedy and drama whilst dealing with a deeply personal and sensitive topic is genius (frankly each episode imo explores a new genre) but I feel like we don’t credit her enough for this. Regardless of what happens with the show’s awards chances it should and will deservingly go down in history.

Anyway give this show ALL the awards!

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

just wanna say that I’ve just finished this series and it’s perfection (a part from episode 7) with a great Coel performance a perfect ending.

Michaela finally won something! I May Destroy You won 3 awards at the Broadcasting Press Guilds (who tend to sometimes foreshadow what happens at BAFTA) on Friday for Miniseries, Actress and Writing.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.
