Mine is easily Tituss Burgess. He’s been great in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt throughout the entire show and it is a travesty he still hasn’t won an Emmy for his hilarious and unique role. Plus, he also has what I consider the best episode submission of the category with “Kimmy and the Beest!”

Which performer, director, writer, or show would you cast your 1 and only “Emmy wish” for in order to win?

That’s mean, just 1? It’s a tie between Strahovski, Headey, and Criss for me.

Headey has been excellent for 7 seasons now, where the hell is her Emmy?!

Strahovski was divine in season 2, undeniable IMO.

I have loved Criss since Glee and seeing him as this serial killer blew my mind.

Just one dude, no ties allowed by anyone. I created this thread for that reason, fun but also a challenge. I would love Keri Russell and Darren Criss to walk away with Emmys, but only the latter seems primed to and you’ve gotta prioritze. Which of these 3, especially with 2 of them being in the same category?

    Strahovski, Headey, OR Criss?

I gotta go with Headey then. 7 seasons playing this iconic character.

I think Keri Russell, which is ironically the only The Americans nomination I’m now confident has close to no chance to win.

Honestly, for me it would be Darren Criss. For all that I’d love to have a ‘3 wish genie’ kind of thing that would allow me to reward Ted Danson for being the funniest man on TV in a brilliant show (even though I think Donald Glover is incredible), or ensure that The Americans doesn’t walk away without a single Best Drama Emmy win in their entire series, I’d pick Criss, simply because of the crap the Versace series unfairly received from some critics.

Practically from the minute the first episode was broadcast, people piled on the show with the whole ‘not as good as OJ’ mantra. It wasn’t true, it’s absolutely as good, in very different ways, but the constant sniping has annoyed me intensely ever since. A win for the limited series seems inevitable anyway, so my vote is that Criss’ Emmy win ensures that people can’t say the show only won limited series category because of a ‘weak year’, and couldn’t win the bigger acting categories. Criss beating out huge stars like Cumberbatch, Banderas and Daniels would prove the show’s credibility as a brilliant piece of TV, and his performance as truly worthy Emmy winner.

For me there are only two performances this year that just stick out as utterly breathtaking, can’t get them out of my head displays of acting brilliance – Glover in the Teddy Perkins episode of Atlanta, and Darren Criss in Versace. Glover appears to be absolutely nailed on surefire winner for the best comedy actor, so I’m giving my wish for Criss, who has a little more competition for that win!

I don’t think Drama Series is realistic either with snubs for Directing, Casting, and Picture Editing, as well as Noah Emmerich being snubbed by the actors branch. In order for a hypothetical win for The Americans in Series the actors branch would need to rally completely behind it meaning both Russell and Rhys would be, when only the latter seems primed to do so. Sorry to burst your hopes.

Now that Djawadi is out of the way, Foy and Headey are the ones I want to see ‘crowned’ the most.

I’ll pick Foy. Breathtaking performance unlike anything currently on television, IMO. She would be my choice based on both merit and sentimentality.

Headey will be eligible next year so I guess I’ll rally behind her then.

I already explained several times why I think The Americans could happen in Series and as risky as it is I’m predicting it now.

Not unless the actors branch backs it up completely since along with the writers they seem to be the only ones that give a shit about the show en masse. If you’re predicting The Americans for Series then purely based on logic you should predict the other 3 nominees to sweep as well. If tapes matter The Americans might stand a chance as a dark horse, but looking at this popularity voting system a win in Series seems to make no damn sense. I would also like to point out that the Goldderby TV Awards have shown way more nominations love to The Americans than the Emmys have over the years, but while we only awarded the show with actual wins for the first time this year, Russell still came in 3rd behind Foy and the winner Moss and it lost Series to Game of Thrones. If we on Goldderby who cared about the show so much more than Emmy voters didn’t award it Best Drama Series, why would the Emmys, objectively speaking on a level of pure logic?

Joel Fields & Joe Weisberg for best writing for START. The best show on TV alongside Mad Men cannot go without any big win (I am not counting Martindale as such). And the writing awards of the Emmy is really prestigious.

Smart thinking with wishing for Foy this year since this will be her last chance to win an Emmy for that role. I hope you don’t mind my asking, but out of curiosity why exactly do you find her Queen Elizabeth in Season 2 pf The Crown a superior work of acting then Russell’s IMO superior performance as Elizabeth Jennings in Season 6 of The Americans?

You only get to wish for ONE. Which one, Headey or Newton? You have to choose, as hard as that may be.

Lynch in Directing or The Americans in drama? Maybe the first one.
