It’s a good show but not in the same league as the heavy hitting cable shows. Not even close. It has a good premise and some great performances and kind of fills the Parenthood void for some people. I think if they streamlined the show a little more and reduced Kate and Kevin’s storylines, it would improve the show. I could see why this show would turn some people off though. It’s emotionally manipulative and a little too sentimental. I’m a cynical person by nature so I am wired to not like this show, but I do for some reason. Doubt it will be anywhere near my top 15 shows come the end of the year though.February 23, 2017 at 10:52 am #1202019780
Anyways, we have to beat the drum loudly for this show at the Emmys! Tell us all you can about its campaign!
You can trust that the drums will beat very, very loudly for “This Is Us” here at the Derby. We/I’ll be doing GD hangouts, more spotlights, and Marcus and I will be doing the carpet at the upcoming PaleyFest.
And of course I’ll keep you all informed of all the campaign info (in the separate thread I created) I not only get as a voter, but any insider stuff run by me like Moore being Lead. It’s only fair if I know that you all do as well – unless I’m sworn to secrecy or it’s a GD exclusive that can be turned into a blog post, then screw you guys.February 23, 2017 at 11:24 am #1202019811
It’s a decent show, but not the greatest in the slightest.February 23, 2017 at 11:38 am #1202019833
It’s stellar to me. Your mileage may very, which is irrelevant to my enjoyment or appreciation of the work in question.
Stellar gets banded about way too much in describing good shows. I loved Westworld but wouldn’t describe it as stellar. TV in general is at all time high levels of quality. Either about 30 shows are stellar, or we have to be more conservative in labelling everything as amazing.
Like I said previously, your mileage may vary. I’ll call the show stellar if I damn well please if that’s what I deem to be the case, which it is for “This Is Us.”February 23, 2017 at 1:19 pm #1202019907
But this is a thread exactly on that topic, yet you haven’t clarified what constitutes it being a stellar show, just that ‘it’s a stellar show’. What mileage are you using?March 3, 2017 at 11:06 pm #1202029014
The characters are interesting and well fleshed out in a very limited period of time.March 3, 2017 at 11:09 pm #1202029016
TBH, critics do not have sway in the TV awards like they do with film. I wouldn’t call them out of touch, but they always seem to want to push their favorites forward and jeopardize other shows credibility because they want to have just as much relevance in the Emmys race.March 4, 2017 at 4:40 am #1202029111
That hit piece is garbage. Next.March 4, 2017 at 11:34 am #1202029266
I like Ben Travers but this….
He can do better than that
