With the possibility of both Garner and Linney coming up against each other at SAG who would you vote for if you were a SAG voter?

October 7, 2020 at 8:56 am #1203765167It’s tough. Based on this season, Linney. But the overall show, i’d go with Garner. But since it’s just for the latest season, i’ll go with Linney. She blew me away in those last few episodes.

ReplyCopy URLOctober 7, 2020 at 9:32 am #1203765238I would vote for neither of them are winning personally. But between these two I would vote for Linney winning.

October 7, 2020 at 10:30 am #1203765306I’m going to go against the grain here and say Garner’s performance is better. I was out here with Linney as my Emmys #1 till the very end, but Ozark is defined by Garner’s character and I simply can’t imagine a better performance by any other actress, while I can see other great actresses playing Wendy as well as Linney.
I also think Garner is only a supporting character in the same way Annie Murphy/Dan Levy are (aka category fraud). Ozark very clearly has 3 leads.

ReplyCopy URLOctober 7, 2020 at 10:36 am #1203765318I actually disagree Special Guest Star. Obviously we have to wait and see Emma Corrin and Helena Bonham Carter’s performances but if there a 3 from The Crown and 2 from Ozark I think it’s easily Garner vs Linney. Linney was more of a Lead this season but I think we keep forgetting how Garner has the ability to even steal scenes from an established veteran such as Laura Linney. I think voters may find that impressive for a talented less established and experienced actor to be able to do that (i.e. we saw how at the Emmys this type of shock factor of an unknown deliver a performance on level with their fellow more established nominees resulted in wins for Jeremy Strong, Zendaya, Jodie Comer and Garner herself).
Yes Colman has a lot of goodwill and will have more goodwill when The Father comes out but I think she hardly has more goodwill than Anderson will have if she delivers THE performance of this season of The Crown. Not only is she probably playing one of the most baity roles ever in a television series (I don’t say this lightly) she also has a strong overdue narrative and a lot of the shows she was considered to have been previously “snubbed for” such as Sex Education, Hannibal and The Fall have had big resurgences on UK and US Netflix. It’s quite possible a lot of voters by the time of voting may not have only seen her in The Crown but also in those.
It really depends on this season of The Crown, if Emma Corrin outacts Anderson (which is possible) and if we do end up with a lineup of Anderson, Colman, Garner and Linney who is the fifth nominee. If it’s HBC then she’s probably not winning but if it’s Paulson, Comer, Corrin or Oh then I can see practically any of the nominees in that category win. In fact as I said on the SAG thread I won’t be surprised if we ended up having a repeat of the 2019 SAG winners (This is Us, Bateman and Oh).

I agree!
ReplyCopy URLOctober 7, 2020 at 1:11 pm #1203765591Idk if it’s happened before, but supporting co-stars don’t win over their lead ones
It happened three times.
-Megan Mullally over Debra Messing (Will & Grace)
-David Hyde Pierce over Kelsey Grammer (Frasier)
-Paul Newman over Ed Harris (Empire Falls)ReplyCopy URLIt's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!
October 7, 2020 at 1:20 pm #1203765599Laura Linney is the undeniable MVP and she completely bodied her role in season 3
