Well, scratch what Heathcote said.  AMC has emailed that they are submitting three for writing and they are “Still Got It”, “Are You From Pinner?” and “Beautiful Monster” instead.  Directing submissions are “Still Got It”, “Are You From Pinner?” and “Are You Leading or Am I?”  They are again submitting both cinematographers.  “Meetings Have Biscuits” is their music supervision submission and they have “Are You From Pinner?” in both costumes and production design.

They’re literally going to miss for all three in directing and writing. It’s exactly like when Better Call Saul submitted a trillion episodes for directing last year.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", AMANDA SEYFRIED FOR "MANK", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

    RIP Killing Eve

they should’ve submitted “meeting have biscuits” for best director and writing. “Are you from pinned” is overrated imo

I’m not saying this is definitely the reason for a full white writing team. However, say if 30 writers applied for the job and the 10 best writing submissions happened to be by white people- surely they would go with the best 10, no matter on their race, gender, sexuality or religion.

I don’t have the energy to explain to you about meritocracy and conscious biases against POC in the arts. It’s so tiring I’m and you should know it by now.

The way they handled Eve these past couple seasons speaks for itself…

S3 end could easily stand as show finale. Maybe with everything going on it’s time to rethink the renewal. Cause at this point unless there are massive rewrites and diversity hire that’s not just token  action, s4 will be the same story. This drama might also play into emmy nominations where only Sandra might get a nom due to an otherwise super stacked categories in both lead and supporting

Eve had plenty of storylines and screentime  in s2. Her screentime was slightly more than villanelles. Now the quality of those multiple storylines is another issue but villanelles plot were also  bad due to overall bad writing that audiences commented on.

I’m by no means saying that there isn’t a bias to PoC, however I’m just stated that not everything has to be down to race. If there’s 2 people applying for a job, the person with the most skills and better work should get it. No matter of their race. Therefore, if the 10 best writers just happened to be white, I don’t personally see a problem. If the ten best writers happened to be PoC then again, that wouldn’t be a problem. People shouldn’t be hired just because of their race.

There is no mathematical/logical way to determine the best writer. “best” is usually determined by mentorship, opportunity and network. Getting your script on someone’s desk is 80% of the work and priority is given to people in their network, who has been mostly white peoples. And then if the story is something they can understand, probably a white story, then they get the opportunity. Tina Fey, PWB, Larry David, Seinfeld, etc were given opportunities into the door to prove themselves. POCs aren’t even given that chance most times. In an industry based on subjectivity, people need to think about creating diverse writing rooms in order to combat their own biases.

Representation issues make me sick and I continually go out of my way to ask people (who have never been asked before) that I interview about their shortcomings in terms of diversity, but I never considered confronting Suzanne Heathcote (and maybe that is on me), given how this a female-driven British show headlined by an Asian (so it is better than the status quo on three counts). I am not quite saying that this is unwarranted and if this happens to be the show unlucky enough to start this particular conversation about all-white writers’ rooms and prompt change, then that is great, but I did not see this coming for this show.

Even if I love the show, I’m glad this conversation happens.

Right now however, this new writer gets heat for things that she actually didn’t do:
    1. she didn’t write s.3
    2. she doesn’t do hire on KE

For quality of writing she will be judge next year, for tone deaf tweet she can be judge now, for everything else – the whole industry (and therefore, KE producers) should be questioned all the time.
