I think it’s safe to say that Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey and Laura Dern are sure-things for a nomination.
That leaves us with Melissa McCarthy, Zooey Deschanel and Laura Linney. Who will miss out?
But hey, if you think we are severely underestimating someone else, sound off below in the comments! Are we selling Christina Applegate short? Do you think Edie Falco or Lea Michele can get back in to the race? What about Martha Plimpton? Or Lena Dunham? Or could Patricia Heaton or Kaley Cuoco finally make it in?

Personally, I think that only Poehler and Fey (happy 42nd today, Tina!) are sure things. Dern and Louis-Dreyfus being on new cable shows makes them automatically hit-or-miss in terms of nominatability (I’d say the same thing about Dunham, who’s gotten even more mixed reviews) and I give an edge to Louis-Dreyfus because of her prior Emmy success. I think that Dern’s chances are really over-hyped because of her Golden Globe win (she was a former Miss Golden Globes, daughter of Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd, and that was her third Golden Globe win) and the show was low-rated and hasn’t been on the air for quite some time. I think Plimpton has a better chance than most are giving her to make it back in this year and still am not convinced of Linney or Falco gettings nods this year, but their seasons aren’t quite over yet and actually end when Emmy voters have ballots in their hands, so that may give them a boost. But this is definitely a tough category to predict this year.May 18, 2012 at 9:41 am #244485
Laura Dern is not a sure thing. Her show was on a long time ago, absolutely nobody watched it, and it was divisive with the critics.May 18, 2012 at 11:01 am #244486
I’ll barf if McCarthy is nominated again. I sure hope Wendie Malick is in consideration. The only watchable element in HIC, and one of the funniest ladies on television right now.May 18, 2012 at 12:45 pm #244487
Laura Dern is not a sure thing. Neither are the other HBO ladies. Plimpton stays.May 18, 2012 at 1:26 pm #244488
Poehler, Louis-Dreyfus and Fey are locks, IMO. I hope Plimpton gets in there, because I think she’s lovely.
I would not be upset AT ALL if McCarthy didn’t get another nomination.May 18, 2012 at 1:37 pm #244489
I’m pretty sure Dreyfus is more secure than Plimpton.May 18, 2012 at 5:24 pm #244490
I think Poehler, Fey and Louis-Dreyfus are lock. Linney, Dern and Deschanel are the next in the line along with Plimpton and I can see Falco ou McCarthy receiving another nomination, not sure about Dunham. I hope Dern miss out her nomination.May 18, 2012 at 7:02 pm #244491
It’s interesting that so many of you are unconvinced about Dern (so was I for a long time). However she actually has more user votes for nomination likelihood than Linney, Deschanel, Louis-Dreyfus and McCarthy… On the other hand, it’s a little more neck-and-neck in terms of editor and expert votes.

I have both Deschanel and McCarthy missing the cut, but for this poll, I’ll vote for McCarthy.May 19, 2012 at 10:42 am #244493
I dont want to see Deschanel in the nominations this year. I believe Mccarthy will retunr for her last time but not win. The Bridesmaids era has long been over.May 19, 2012 at 11:19 am #244494
I can fathom any of the women above being snubbed by Deschanel has the highest chance of getting in. She’s the “it” girl right now and is on the best new comedy of the year and one of the best comedies this season.May 19, 2012 at 12:39 pm #244495
I really really hope that Deschanel doesn’t miss out. She’s a delight on ‘The New Girl’. I think the show as well as both her and Max Greenfield deserve nominations.May 19, 2012 at 3:58 pm #244496
I’m thinking Laura Linney is out this year. Edie Falco too.
my guess for nominees:
—Melissa McCarthyMay 19, 2012 at 4:15 pm #244497
My guess is
1. Julia Louis Dreyfus – tied for 1st place
2. Amy Poheler – tied for 1st place
3. Tina Fey – Shes tina fey…….. thats all i need to say
4. Laura Dern – She won the Golden Globe when EVERYONE though Deschanel was going to get it
5. Melissa Mccarthy – Since she won last year i think she will at least get a nomination, but she wont win again.
6. ( either Deschanel, Linney, or Falco )
