I know this has been discussed already on the forums but I don’t see a dedicated thread.

So, in the spirit of getting completely ahead of myself, the first review for Legion has arrived and it is a rave.

I anticipate it will be the first of many.

I am really curious to see if this can be the first “superhero show” to break through.

Dan Stevens was amazing in The Guest. I never saw his potential when he was on Downton Abbey as a ripped action star. Even though his leaving kind of ruined the show, good for him. I was a special-skills extra on the pilot of this (working title: “Clubhouse”), but was unfortunately in a flashback, so I only met the actor who plays young Dan Stevens. Noah Hawley was directing though (at 120 frames per second for one scene), so that was cool.

That’s awesome! What was Hawley like?

He was fine, not too memorable. What we shot was pretty cool though. There was a special section when we broke for lunch for people on the Paleo Diet, so maybe it was for him?

I do not like Dan Stevens’s hair and wardrobe in this; they are squandering his looks!

They are trying make him look crazy. His character in the comics is not attractive at all, he is supposed to look like he’s been in  solitary confinement for a long time. His character would not work if they tried to make him attractive, and he is a great character that I would hate to see ruined.

Great reviews, but not a chance in terms of above the line noms. Will definitely get some below the line noms though. Let’s not forget that until last year, FX has been terrible at getting their drama series noticed by the Academy. It took The Americans 4 years and that was only because the critical consensus had been building for so long that the Academy really didn’t have a choice if they wanted to have any credibility. It’s also going to be hard to market to voters because it’s a superhero show, no matter how artistic it is.

If it’s a huge ratings hit it has a shot, but it would have to be huge. Or at least have a ton of Internet buzz, which is certainly possible. We’ll see if it has legs. Should be a lock in a lot of the below the line categories at least. If not, there’s something wrong. Then again, Better Call Saul has yet to receive a cinematography nom despite the critics consensus being that it’s one of the best shot shows on tv.
