Lifetime doing Whitney Houston movie with Angela Bassett
on May 22, 2014 at 4:22PM
Inevitable, but also inevitably interesting: Lifetime is doing a
Whitney Houston movie. Because of course they are. When Lifetime’s
press release hit our inbox, the first question that sprang to mind was:
They’re not already doing a Whitney Houston movie? Adding extra intrigue: Oscar nominee Angela Bassett will direct the film. Bassett and Houston co-starred in 1995′s Waiting to Exhale together. We’re told Bassett will not star, but she may have another role in the film.
Here’s Lifetime’s plan for its take on the pop singer, who died two years ago at the age of 48: “Whitney Houston
chronicles the headline-making relationship between the iconic singer,
actress, producer and model, and singer, songwriter Bobby Brown — from
the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity, to their
courtship and tumultuous marriage. Throughout it all, difficulties
followed the superstar couple while they dealt with the overwhelming
rewards and consequences of the fame and fortune created by Whitney’s
meteoric rise that would soon overshadow them both.”
Added Bassett: “I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s
amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the
telling of their story. Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I’m
beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into
their world.” Whitney Houston (working title) is scheduled to premiere in 2015.May 25, 2014 at 11:54 am #318381

I don’t like this idea at all. Not that I disagree with the idea of a Whitney movie but this is way too soon in my opinion.May 25, 2014 at 5:51 pm #318384
It’s never too soon when it comes to these TV biopics, and there were talks of a film a mere few months after her passing.June 7, 2014 at 2:04 pm #318385
Blandsies Yaya from “Top Model” has won the part and there goes my interest in this project.June 7, 2014 at 2:31 pm #318387

Even though it’s on Lifetime, hopefully this will be her breakout role. Go make Tyra Banks proud, or perhaps jealous.June 7, 2014 at 4:20 pm #318390
She kinda looks like her. Not really seeing the resemblanceJune 7, 2014 at 11:15 pm #318391

Good to see he’s got his My Prerogative/Ev’ry Little Step hair going for him.
And for the poster above, I looked her up and she’s done several projects including The Kids Are All Right.
Also, I can’t remember where I saw it, but is the movie just focusing on the Bobby/Whitney time together, around the time of the reality show only? Or a broader range?December 4, 2014 at 8:26 pm #318394
