I think it says a lot about the quality of I Know This Much is True that HBO chose to move The Undoing instead of it.

Its trailer was very promising. It can be a hit with both viewers and critics, at least seems like an accessible project that can be liked by critics.

I think The Undoing was moved strictly because HBO has to make changes to its scheduling to coincide with the production problems it’s been facing recently and in the upcoming months due to the corona virus. A lot of their shows that are currently filming won’t be released when they initially planned to release them because they won’t finish shooting any time soon. They’re probably spreading out the shows that are already completed so that they have new content available throughout the year.

Well, I guess all the focus now will be on BLL and it makes me more confident that she’s getting in

She was always getting nominated for Big Little Lies.

I agree with poster that said it’s more about scheduling than quality . They are looking ahead to having programming in fall. With production stopped at moment . They need to have something to show in the fall

I think it’s about both scheduling and quality. They clearly wanted I Know This Much is True competing in this Emmy season more than they did The Undoing. So when something had to move, it was the latter.

    I think it’s just a scheduling thing.

    Blanchett – Dever – King – Washington – Wever – Witherspoon

look like the perfect lineup with Kidman out of the picture.
But I wouldn’t rule out Octavia Spencer and Helen Mirren, who despite the overall quality of their shows are big names and gave solid performances.

And so interesting Nicole Kidman and Kate Winslet will be up against each other @ 2021 Emmys.

I think they know that the undoing is very female-centric and that there already are too many female-centric competing in the limited race. On the contrary, the male categories are fairly open so mark ruffalo would have a better chance at winning than nicole Kidman this year. Both shows will probably be great but it would be more difficult for the undoing to win in such a female slate of limited series (little fires, mrs america, Unbelievable)

The Undoing was supposed to be their prime Limited contender and I think Watchmen turning out to be unexpectedly strong with the industry also had some impact on their decision to shift the former to fall. Watchmen will be their sole biggest priority now.

It’s funny because I think we’ll have a lineup similar to 2017’s in limited actress: two duos (Witherspoon & Washington, Dever & Wever) and two singles from their respective shows (Blanchett and King). I don’t think Kazan is happening with the lack of buzz for TPAA, and Self Made won’t be enough of a player for Octavia Spencer to sneak in. That’s my current prediction. I know Dever is still a bit shaky, but the voting system will help her. They aren’t going to check off Collette and Wever, but not Dever. That’s not how it works anymore; for instance, Patricia Arquette (the more known actress) isn’t going to get in without Joey King for “The Act,” despite the latter being lesser known. Dever plays the main rape victim on the show and gives a heartbreaking performance that earned her Globe and Critics’ Choice bids. And let’s not bring up her age; the TV academy didn’t care about age last year and they won’t this year either.

Emmys FYC - "Unbelievable" and "The Handmaid's Tale" in all categories; Viola Davis in Best Drama Actress for the final season of "HTGAWM."

The Undoing pushed to fall is more than likely a TV business decision rather than an awards one. Due to coronavirus impacting productions, they won’t have their fall shows (Euphoria) ready and they now need something to fill in the slots. I don’t think it’s related to awards at all.

I think it’s about both scheduling and quality. They clearly wanted I Know This Much is True competing in this Emmy season more than they did The Undoing. So when something had to move, it was the latter.

No, The Undoing has simply a better ratings potential than IKTMIT and that’s why it’s the show they are giving a prime fall spot now.
