Part of the reason why I changed to predicting Jackman is because I feel he has the least going against him of all the contenders.

Jackman arguably makes the most sense right now, but if any of Normal People, I Know This Much Is True or The Loudest Voice make series, I’ll probably switch to predicting their respective leads. I’m optimistically predicing Normal People to get in so I have Mescal in first. Mine are always either overly optimistic or overly pessimistic though.

    For Your Consideration:

Best International Feature: Instinct (The Netherlands)
Best Actress: Carice van Houten (Instinct)

Crowe is not winning. Neither is Jackman. I could honestly see a Paterno/Pacino situation for Jackman if the category wasn’t so open. Mescal could me snubbed. But he does have so much passion that if he gets in he could be undeniable for the win.

I will say, though, that I would feel much better about Mescal if Normal People snuck into series. Or at least got nominated outside of actor. Mescal does fit the profile of Jerome, Criss, and Ahmed, but they all had series that were not only nominated, but competitive for the win.

The more I thought about it, I started to wonder if a better comparison to Mescal was Cameron Britton. A New performance with seemingly undeniable passion on a cool show, but wasn’t able to win due to not having visibility with the academy. I hope this comparison is wrong though because I want him to be win so badly.

If Watchmen does end up winning series, watch Jeremy Irons win lead actor in a sweep.

Lead Actor is an open category. I wouldn’t be surprised if Chris Evans or André Holland wins here.

    No.

The Politician : Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bette Midler and Judith Light.

I’m not predicting him, but I feel like we could possibly be underestimating him. His biggest hurdle might be the nomination, which, given how so many contenders dropped out, now feels very secure.

Sweeps never extend that beyond. It is more likely for Watchmen to win supporting actor, the show’s standout point is not its acting.

I see a likely scenario of Watchmen doing what Chernobyl did last year in terms of winning – Series, Writing and Directing. I’m skeptical about winning any acting categories. King stands the best chance, but Blanchett is ahead. I don’t give much weight to the Critics Awards, which is why I think Smart and Nelson could miss.

    Sweeps never extend that beyond.

You could say that Olive Kitteridge kind of did, with Richard Jenkins winning for a borderline supporting performance and Bill Murray actually winning supporting for a small and unshowy performance.

You’re kind of right but the level of competition was different back then. Despite hitting 20 nominations American Horror Story: Freak Show was somehow a nonstarter for the limited series win.

The four that can actually win are Jackman, Ruffalo, Crowe and Mescal (if he gets in).

I don’t think he will, but Irons definitely CAN win as well.

I was with low expectations when I started to watch Defending Jacob – because of what I read in here. But I got say that I’m really enjoying it.
Michelle Dockery never cease to amaze me. I would nominate her. I mean I think the cast is amazing – Cherry Jones, JK Simmons and Chris Evans. (I still have to watch the 2 last episodes)

    FYC Emmys 2020:
Sienna Miller - The Loudest Voice
    Anne Hathaway - Modern Love

I just realised that Watchmen and Succession are in the exact same situation. Both are only locked for one acting category, both aired a while ago and both will probably win writing and directing. Both also could either underperform in acting on nominations day or heavily over-perform because the support amongst actors for both shows is unknown. And then they have competitors which are likely to dominate the acting races (Mrs. America, The Crown and Ozark).

FYC Emmys : Jodie Comer ("Killing Eve"), Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials"), Russell Tovery ("Years and Years"), Helena Bonham Carter ("The Crown") & The Crown, His Dark Materials, Years and Years, Succession and The Affair in all categories. It’s nice to see other people jumping on the NGNG Tituss Burgess prediction
