Lead actor has six strong contenders in my eyes.  (Aaron Paul is not one of them.)  Paul Mescal is the obvious or most logical miss, but I refuse to take him out because he seems to be one of the easier ways that I can account for this unusual season.  Both because the season is longer and people are quarantined, people are definitely watching more shows that they would not in another year and this has to manifest in the nominations somehow.  The academy has been making trendier choices lately, including in this category, so I do not really doubt that the academy will go for Mescal if they see him; it is more just a question of whether larger biases prevent them from watching Normal People in the first place, which I have already decided will be overcome with this year’s specific circumstances.  Not saying that it is going to overcome this across the board, but we have a perfect storm here of the most praised aspect of Normal People being in the weakest limited category above the line. (Shira Haas is not as lucky for example.)

My NGNG would be slotting in Spector – I actually had him in sixth before the category was cut down.

Yes, I know all the stats about David Simon, his shows, and his actors.

Aaron Paul flopping for both of his performances this year – one vastly mediocre and honestly ruined a show for me, while the other I’m sure was boring as hell – is a moment in history that I will look back favorably on.

Finished Mrs America and am really struggling with who to predict in Supporting like everyone else. I have Byrne, Martindale, Paulson and Aduba. Is 4 too many? I’ve been considering whether to default to Hollywood for my 5th Series nominee and put one of its contenders in here

I actually think Martindale will miss for Ullman.

And no 4 isn’t too many. But 5 probably is. I don’t see any contender from Hollywood getting in over any of the Mrs America women.

The Supporting Actor category is a complete mystery to me. Except for John Slattery, I can see every last one of my predictions being snubbed. For the record, I’m predicting Jim Parsons, Tituss Burgess, Tim Blake Nelson, Joshua Jackson, and John Turturro.

I don’t know who to replace and with whom? Yahya Abdul-Mateen II can get in a Watchmen sweep, Joe Mantello has the best performance in Hollywood, Darren Criss is a recent winner, so maybe he makes it in. Should I go full Mrs. America in S. Actress category and predict pretty much all of Watchmen actors? Do people still care about Ray Romano? Can Amit Rahav become an inspired choice?

It is the one category I have no confidence in my predictions.

    The ones you should drop.

tbh he flopped for three performances: El Camino, Truth Be Told and Westworld

Tituss Burgess is not happening and anyone who says he is getting in over Abdul-Mateen is delusional.

I don’t think Criss, Turturro or Romano are happening either. I also think both Parsons and Mantello are on shaky ground à la Clooney and Chandler last year.

I would recommend you consider the following:

Joshua Jackson (could get in à la Margaret Qualley last year)
    Yayha Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen sweep)
Louis Gossett Jr. (Watchmen sweep plus he is BELOVED in the industry)
Amit Rahav (who might actually get in whilst Haas gets snubbed)
    Jovan Adepo (Watchmen sweep)
Eric Lange (who might also actually get in whilst one of his shows co-leads are snubbed)

FYC Emmys : Jodie Comer ("Killing Eve"), Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials"), Russell Tovery ("Years and Years"), Helena Bonham Carter ("The Crown") & The Crown, His Dark Materials, Years and Years, Succession and The Affair in all categories. I had posted this a while ago that we were underestimating the Watchmen actors in the Supporting Actor category and I’m glad most people have updated their predictions accordingly. Now that I think about it, I’m even more and more confident in Watchmen taking up 3 to 4 slots here. Most of the contenders barring Slattery and to an extent Parsons have always just felt filler to me.

I do wonder about Amit Rahav as I can see him surprise if Unorthodox also gets in Haas and Series.

I just started The Plot Against America and this series is so criminally underrated. I hope it gets some academy recognition. Anthony Boyle is fantastic.

Didn’t watch Truth Be Told, but I personally thought he was great in El Camino. Not as good as his prior work in the original series, but he was still strong, and to be fair, the material isn’t as good as what he had on Breaking Bad. Didn’t care for him on Westworld, but aside from Wood, I’d say the same about every other actor on the show this season.

I’ve said this before on these threads so forgive the broken-record-ness, this category feels ripe for a John Legiuzamo-esque surprise.

And I think that could be Cory Fern for AHS: 1984. His situation reminds me so much of Adina Porter for Cult. Nomination for their 2nd AHS season in a notoriously empty field after being snubbed for for their first (and in Fern’s case, also Versace).

Granted 1984 is trash and anyone who isn’t John Carol Lynch, Lily Rabe or Finn Wittrock shouldn’t be anywhere near consideration for it.

Hoping this category is Slattery + WatchmenX4 + a good surprise/inspired (Rahav, Martell, Baldry, Mantello or McDermott if they must do a Hollywood guy)

Hell even Lynch would be a inspired choice, he’s a reliable character actor whose worked with everyone over the years & gave a genuinely fantastic performance in a trash-bag of a season. Reminds of Stephen Root for Barry if his show was actually good / getting above-the-nominations.
