I really liked how arch tonight’s episode was. I am a patient viewer, knowing things unfold on time, but a fiery shootout and some new twists were welcomed. Some of the acting seems really rubbery from some supporting cast members. But I did appreciate Steve Arnott’s sweatshirt and his mercurial pistol shot from inside the van. I can’t believe there are only two episodes to go! They will be packed.

Adrian Dunbar said they have seven episodes this year instead of the usual six, so three left.

There’s something about this season I can’t put my finger on, but I’m struggling with it. I’m not sure how they want us to feel about Kelly Macdonald – sympathetic that she’s been pulled into the OCG, or that she’s an out-out villain?

I get the sense that one of the main three isn’t coming out of this season alive, from Arnott’s struggle with painkillers, Hastings refusing to drop this operation and AC-12 potentially folding, and Kate getting in too deep with Davidson. In which case, I’d be keen for them to make Chloe a bit more of a character than just “Steve’s new partner”.

    Fantastic van crash scene though.

Anna Maxwell Martin is infuriating in this, and thus so good. I wish they’d kept her return a secret.

Also infuriating – that fadeout with the gunshots. Vicky McClure is killing it this season.

I can’t wait until next week, but let’s be real – that ending was a mess, and so telegraphed.

    Same thoughts – she’s great.

I wouldn’t mind Carmichael becoming a more prominent character.

Anna Maxwell-Martin is delightful in this role. I actually was shocked to see her back (I’ve been avoiding Twitter because I was behind).

The pace has picked up a bit (which thank god it’s done so because whilst I admittedly enjoyed the slow burn of the first two episodes, it was getting overused) but the editing of this season feels as if it’s been somewhat off? I echo what’s been said about the ending of this week’s episode but also with the ending of last week’s. It felt as if I was watching someone’s poor homage to Barry lol.

That being said I’m looking forward to Sunday’s episode.

Really? I’ve found her acting quite poor this season and the worst of the ensemble (and I’ve nominated her in my personal awards for each of the other seasons).

I will say I did enjoy Shalom Brune-Franklin’s scene in this week’s episode.

I’m the total opposite, I think she’s fantastic this season – it feels like she has a lot more to do this year than S5 which felt really Steve heavy, and she’s making the most of it.

The way this is literally Anna Maxwell Martin to the cast when she appears on this show:

FYC Emmys: "The Crown" in all categories, "I May Destroy You" in all categories, "It's a Sin" in all categories, "Small Axe" in all categories, Billie Piper ("I Hate Suzie"), Yvonne Strahovski ("Stateless") and Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials")

I guess next week we’ll meet James Nesbitt?? Or are they saving him for a potential S7?

Line of Duty in the UK having more viewers than the Oscars in the States is crazy. God forbid they ever get the rights to a US version.

    Gosh don’t tempt them!

I’d imagine for the guest lead all these Hollywood A listers would be rushing down for “an easy attempt at winning an Emmy”.

Part of what I liked about the first three seasons was how James, Hawes and Mays weren’t cast due to their name recognition or “with ratings gold in mind” which I felt has been the case with Newton and MacDonald’s casting. Instead they were perfect fits for their characters which (whilst I did initially like both Newton and MacDonald’s performances in the earlier episodes), I’ve felt hasn’t been the case with the latter two.
