Another great episode. Witherspoon is terrific. It’s such a carefully acted performance. I see Elena as a woman walking down a path that she carved out herself based on what she believes is best for her family and her friends. She’s someone who has always gotten what she wanted and has never actually had something not go the way she planned. That’s why it’s so interesting to watch the choices Witherspoon makes when Elena is pushed off her meticulously laid out path. Like in this past episode, Elena initially does everything she can to stop Bebe from wanting to take back her daughter. She comes off as thoughtful and caring, although it’s only a façade, when she offers Bebe visitation hours and help to get her citizenship. However, when Bebe refuses, Elena blows up. She shows this evil side to her when she doesn’t get what she wants – when someone doesn’t follow her path. And you wonder how far she’s willing to go to change that. It’s a fascinating character, but that’s thanks to the way Witherspoon plays her.

I still think Washington is doing her best work here when she’s opposite Witherspoon or the actress who plays Pearl. The chemistry is there with both. I hate to say it, but she has to stop acting so much with her teeth lol. It just takes me out sometimes.

Anyway, I can’t wait to watch things get more messy.

I didn’t have high expectations for this show, thought it would be too soapy and OTT like The Morning Show, but I find myself really liking it. The politics at play are fascinating and do have some nuance to them which I wouldn’t expect considering the talent involved, even though the directing and dialogue can get pretty corny.

Washington and Witherspooon are both good, neither have really WOWd me. Are we gonna start predicting RoseMarie DeWitt? Can imagine her role only grows from here and she’s a real talented actress. The kids are all solid, Moody and Pearl are easily the best.

Yeah Witherspoon was riveting in the fourth episode. It really is a carefully crafted performance that really is so nuanced. Her facial acting when she walked into the Chinese restaurant was ace (we’ve seen her do it on BLL as well). And that argument between Mia and Elena was absolutely excellent; I was on the edge of my seat. Kerry Washington continues to be stunning! Also, RoseMarie DeWitt was absolutely fantastic; she seamlessly switched from one emotion to the other! I absolutely love this show although it’s definitely not without ita flaws. But it’s an intriguing drama with two layered female protagonists that is also hella entertaining. Finally, I can’t get enough of the opening credits. If they aren’t nominated, I will riot!

Emmys FYC - "Unbelievable" and "The Handmaid's Tale" in all categories; Viola Davis in Best Drama Actress for the final season of "HTGAWM;" "Ozark:" Drama Series, Laura Linney (Best Actress) and Julia Garner (Best Supporting Actress)

I think Izzy’s been really, really great. That girl is talented.

she’s for sure good, but before this episode she hadn’t really been doing anything with her stereotype of a character that really excited me. Moody and Pearl’s story and performances have been more interesting, in my opinion.

Another great episode but probably the weakest so far as the teen stuff (not Izzy) was a bit too predictably written. Washington was outstanding yet again.

As someone who has read the book I find it hard to enjoy the show. The book had a nuance that the show lacks. Plus book’s Mia is completely different from show’s Mia. Everything in the show seems so over the top at times. It’s sad. I still enjoy it for what it is, but it’s not a great adaptation.

Ugh the teeth thing is ridiculous. Everyone emotes with different parts of their face.

Eh, I disagree. It comes off, to me, like her ”I’m trying to cry” face. I’m only saying that I find it distracting, if you don’t then that’s fine.

Except we know she can cry easily so she’s clearly not trying. Fair enough if you find it distracting but I just feel like it’s one of these things no one noticed until someone mentioned it on Twitter and now all her critics leap onto it. Same thing happened with Viola and her snot.

Ugh the Davis snot thing is so stupid. People pretend like she’s doing that on purpose, lol.

No shade, but it’s a hard thing to not notice. Just in the first four episodes, she’s done it multiple times.

I think there are many people who noticed it but it always seemed kind of weird to say out loud. Now, at least those people know they are not the only ones thinking that.

I’ve seen the first three episodes so far, and though I get the BLL comparisons, it’s different in it’s own right. The performances from Witherspoon & Washington have been exceptional. The actors playing their kids have been outstanding as well!
