Winslet was excellent in the pilot. I don’t think I’ve seen her play this type of character before.

The pilot was great. I do echo what people said about it being very formulaic but I still enjoyed it.

FYC Emmys: "The Crown" in all categories, "I May Destroy You" in all categories, "It's a Sin" in all categories, "Small Axe" in all categories, Billie Piper ("I Hate Suzie"), Yvonne Strahovski ("Stateless") and Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials")

I grew up in eastern Pennsylvania and I’m actually very impressed with Winslet’s dialect here. I’ve only watched the first episode, but I really thought it was a great pilot of setting everything up while still being entertaining.

    Episode Title: “Fathers”

Synopsis: Mare visits a grisly murder scene before informing the victim’s enraged father; as a video from the night of the crime surfaces, Mare questions suspects in the case and gives an icy welcome to County Detective Colin Zabel, who’s been called in to assist; Mare bumps heads with locals and airs concerns about her grandson Drew in light of her late son’s mental health struggles.

    Discuss.

Make sure to DVR or watch during the week. I know everyone will be focused on Oscar night, but this is must-see too.

I forgot to say how much I adored this show’s series premiere. Perfectly paced and constructed. Winslet was pretty flawless.

Winslet was so good in this that I actually think it’s no longer just a hope-diction to think she can take down Taylor Joy.

She was trending topic on the day the first episode aired. She is definitely in and a prominent contender.

eh, anya taylor joy is much more exciting than alicia vikander and winslet had reason to fight a lot harder for a 2nd oscar.

How is this in any way comparable?

Kate Winslet getting acclaimed for an acclaimed project which could possibly be a repeat win at an awards show, for her first post-win nom there after several years.

The frontrunner being a mid-20s white it girl coming off double Golden Globe noms.

I don’t see how you feel that is 0% of a comparison point, but w/e.

Caught up on this the other day and it honestly gives me Olive Kitteridge vibes in the best way possible.

Nah. Anya Taylor Joy has it in the bag. She has basically a cult backing up her just like Zendaya.

This limited series might have the potential to surpass “Sharp Objects,” which I never would have guessed given the premise of the project. Winslet is giving me everything I need in this role! The redemption arc begins! Evan Peters’s introduction was great. His character is just the kind of countering presence that Mare needs. I do wonder how Guy Pearce’s character will fit into the narrative moving forward. Did NOT see that ending coming! White mess is real lol.

Because Film and TV awards are not the same and never will be.
