“Julianna Margulies has been cast in the upcoming AMC drama “Dietland,” Variety has learned.
The 10-episode series, based on Sarai Walker’s 2015 novel of the same name, explores society’s obsession with weight loss and beauty. Margulies will play Kitty Montgomery, a wildly ambitious magazine editor whose world is thrown into chaos when a feminist terrorist organization starts targeting people in her orbit. Sucked into a terrifying news cycle, Kitty can no longer rely on her old-school media power and must instead play a whole new game of master manipulation where rules no longer apply.
She will appear opposite Joy Nash, who was previously cast in the series lead role of Plum Kettle. Plum, an obese woman who is preparing for weight loss surgery, finds her world is upturned by two rival feminist factions. Caught between old ideas and radical new extremes, Plum must decide for herself what it means to be a revolutionary as the “war of the sexes” becomes literal. The series is slated to debut in 2018.
Marti Noxon serves as executive producer and showrunner. Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross also serve as executive producers along with Maria Grasso of Tiny Pyro, Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn of Mockingbird Pictures, and Jacqueline Hoyt. The series is a co-production between AMC Studios and Skydance Television under its Uncharted label.”

Love seeing Margulies return to TV.
Is this a limited series or a regular one?April 12, 2018 at 11:55 am #1202528581

Julianna and these damn wigs. Let your kinky hair flourish, girl.June 5, 2018 at 10:28 pm #1202559520
Two hours was way tooo much. This has potential so I’ll stick around but Noxon really could have been more subtle. This also could have been way more fun.
Nash was fine, she was adequate, the supporting cast was a lot of fun though. Margulies was fine but it was Tamara Tunie that stole the show. I’m very interested in her awards prospects: working veteran actor that steals the show on a mediocre program filled with prestige. I could see it happening, I’ve been waiting for her to finally get an Emmy role for a while. Besides her being a long shot and Margulies (just because her name), I don’t seeawards getting near this.
Hopefully it’ll get better. I’m staying for Tunie.June 25, 2018 at 1:54 pm #1202572909
I’m all caught up, and I’m intrigued by this show. Margulies is so good as the “villain”-type, but I wish she had more to do.June 25, 2018 at 2:45 pm #1202573047
Is anyone else watching? Should I give it a try? I do love Margulies, I think she’s an incredible actress.June 25, 2018 at 4:48 pm #1202573261
I have never heard or read the book so I’m coming in blind.
I’m loving this – probably because as a bigger person I can relate to Plum’s struggle – esp the end of the 3rd? ep where she gave that speech to her mother and Steven.
Margulies is the weak part of the series. Maybe because I think shes coming off as too cold but not in a good or fun way.
Finally, Im just a bit iffy when it comes to this ‘Jennifer’ group/violence. It seems a little out of place and too much. But again, I dont know the background of the story so maybe the Jennifer Group and its objective is the whole point of the show in the end.
If you have to categorize, it probably appeals more to women and gays than to a broader audience (MY opinion).June 27, 2018 at 4:46 pm #1202575096
This past week’s episode was pretty good, but I am curious how all threads play out. I still can’t believe some of the stuff that comes out of Margulies’s Kitty’s mouth. Margulies was excellent this week.July 31, 2018 at 3:27 am #1202599658
Season 1 is over.
Chance of renewal?
I thinks it improved during its run. Joy Nash was pretty great especially in the second half, I hope Julianna Margulies was given more to do but she was impeccable in her scenes.
Any thoughts?July 31, 2018 at 7:35 am #1202599771
Really, I disagree. I was enjoying the series before Plum was fired from the magazine. The Jennifer conspiracy plot in the second half was a little far fetched. I guess I went into this series with the intention (more or less) to see Julianna Margulies play a leading HBIC-esque role in the beauty industry. She got to do some of that, but not nearly enough. When she wasn’t on screen, I kept wanting more of her (other than one or two minutes per episode). I’ll keep watching if it’s renewed, but I would prefer Margulies being more prominent.
