I realize that many have given up on this show.  I liked the first season, but grew quickly tired of seasons two and three.

I recently revisted the show due to my interest in its follow up, the hilarious Mom. The tone and focus of the show has changed considereably for the better.  Molly has quit her teaching job and is trying to become a writer.  The show now is really a showcase for Melissa McCarthy, even more than before.

I have to admit that the show has been just hysterical.  McCarthy has been firing on all cylinders.  I have seen two episodes that would be dynamite submissions for her.  IN particular there was a recent episode that guest starred Susan Sarandon as a boozy nympho author who hilariously puts the moves on Molly.  The scene had me in tears.

I’ll have to watch that episode. Maybe Emmy love for Susan Sarandon.

This is precisely the problem with this “New” Mike & Molly.

Mike & Molly is about two people, notably both overweight, who fall in love and, for us the viewers, we get the watch their love for each other deepen.

That was what Mike & Molly—also starring Billy Gardell as “Mike”—was about.

Now Mike & Molly has been turned into The Melissa McCarthy Show.

If it wasn’t for the Emmy winner’s success over the last two/three years—including her 2011 supporting-actress Oscar nomination for Bridesmaids—along with her continuation with this series, I doubt that “New” Mike & Molly would still be on.

The “new” Mike & Molly is a result of McCarthy’s box office viability not translating to Nielsen viability.

"I don't even believe in god, but I'm going to thank her tonight."
