I agree it is one of the best shows this season. It deserves nominations in all major categories. Groff, McCallany and Torv are absolutely outstanding. Torv is my #2 this year (Vanessa Kirby is #1). Groff is #4 (Gleeson, Schreiber, Sutherland and Treadaway are ahead of him). And Britton deserves a fucking win in guest category. It kills me Stranger Thins and GoT are gonna be showered with nominations while this show probably gets nada. Oh, and Anna Torv and Carrie Coon are the same person.

Agree with all of this. Especially Britton, he should be a lock.

Britton would be the most deserving winner in a long time.

Big fan of Better Call Saul, Sex Education, Barry, BoJack Horseman, and, especially, Survivor

I just took Britton out of my predictions, it seems too good to come true.

Britton reminds me of Lois Smith for The Americans, where everyone gave Emmy voters too much credit and wrongly thought she would be nominated for her actual meaty role instead of actual nominee and winner from that same show Martindale for her literal cameo. Only with The Americans that was still for the shows 3rd season while Mindhunter is still untested with the TV Academy and under-performed spectacularly at the guilds. I’m only making that comparison to make a point not to give Emmy voters too much credit in regards to them actually watching all the acclaimed shows and performances in contention.

Lois Smith was also a well established actress while Britton is a relative unknown.

Exactly, plus Guest categories seem to only nominate stars or well-known characters actors like Cathey, Martindale, and Dowd. Rachel Brosnahan got in for House of Cards because the actors branch loved the show so much. I don’t see the actors branch taking to Mindhunter as kindly, judging by the complete SAG shut out.

I probably have OCD, but can someone please rename the page to “Mindhunter”, it’s “Mindhunter”, not “Mindhunters”. Unless this isn’t the thread to the show I think.

I maintain that Mindhunter is a possible series nominee and Netflix started campaigning him last year.  Netflix is even trotting him out with the three leads for the show’s academy FYC event next week.  He reminds me more of Laurie Metcalf than Lois Smith.  The love for this performance on a debut season is so overwhelming that it compensates for any other shortcoming, be it not being famous (Britton) or not being on a show that the academy cares about (Horace and Pete).

Torv need a Nora Durst type of character, she deserve a big and loud role to show everyone how amazing she is.

She led Fringe for a hundred episodes.

Also worth noting for the chances of this show as a whole is that Mindhunter, Godless and Ozark are the only shows that Netflix is doing two FYSEE events for this season. They believe in it.

Not even for The Crown and Stranger Things? That’s greatly surprising, considering how generally well-received those sophomore seasons were and the first seasons success at the Emmys.

… Except Laurie Metcalf is a multiple Emmy winner already, and she probably got the nod for Horace and Pete (as deserved on merit as it was) on the coattails of her 2 other nominations for more high-profile shows, The Big Bang Theory and Getting On, the latter as a goodbye hug for the final season of that show. Britton doesn’t seem to have any other projects that could propel him or any kind of narrative. Merit alone didn’t get Metcalf her Horace and Pete nod, as sad as that is to point out. Also… I don’t see much of a general love for Mindhunter, even though I am officially predicting it to be nominated for Cinematography by this point. Don’t let your love for his performance and the show itself cloud your judgement. I haven’t seen Ozark, but I’ve certainly heard far more people talking about it and Bateman got in at SAG and (even though they’re a joke) the Globes over Groff’s performance among many others. My own feelings entirely set aside, I don’t see much of a lasting love for Mindhunter and I’m not at all seeing it connect on an industry level at the very least. Still, if you ever decide to put it in your Series predictions then be my guest. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Britton make the cut for Drama Guest Actor, I just think there are other more likely contenders, regardless of merit.

And she was out of this world good in it. Should have got couple nominations and at least one big fat win.

Took them long enough, but I can rest easy again with Mindhunter in my seventh series slot because Emmy voters received the complete season on DVD this week and perhaps more importantly, it is the most innovative screener design of the season.  In fact, it is the only screener that Emmy voters have received that is not just a standard square or a rectangle with DVDs inside, which actually says a lot more about how lazy everyone else has been.  If you do not think that an interesting box makes a difference, then I need to remind you that Beasts of No Nation got a SAG ensemble nomination for three people because its screener packaging had technology from the future. Looks like the only cast members that they are submitting are Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Anna Torv, Hannah Gross and Cameron Britton. The finale is their only writing submission and they are not submitting their ASC-nominated pilot for cinematography. They are submitting all four directors. McCallany is no longer a dark horse for a nomination because they are submitting him in lead. Browse the envelope:

That’s a very nice-looking screener. Just one look at it and I’d be already interested in checking out what’s the show about. Oh, and you know McCallany actually felt like co-lead so it’s nice to know he decided to go against fraud even though it will definitely cost him a chance at nod.
