Michelle Dockery and Taylor Schilling benefit from being the leads of big-ensemble shows that will likely be drizzled with nominations in July. They both could make it in, but with a competitive field, there’s probably only room for one “filler” Drama Series protagonist slot this year (a title Dockery has held for three years now). Which lead actress is more likely to piggyback on their show’s buzz with the Academy?April 28, 2015 at 8:57 pm #347676
If the field is so competitive, I don’t see how either of them getting nominated makes it “filler”…

Neither is getting in, even with a tie. I voted Schilling because I will sooner be wrong about her show losing best drama.

Haven’t we all made the mistake of underestimating Downton Abbey in the past? That’s my only reason for selecting Dockery but, I could see both being left out.April 28, 2015 at 11:18 pm #347679
DockeryApril 28, 2015 at 11:20 pm #347680
Not me. Gold Derby ranked Dockery tenth last year, but I had her third. I say that she falls out this year because the competition is too steep as she and her show are on the decline. It has been two years now that she has not had an individual SAG nomination and the show was dropped from writing and casting last year.

Kill me in the exact moment Dockery name is announced, while Caplan and Farmiga are left out!April 29, 2015 at 4:16 am #347682
I have Schlling in my 6th position. Orange has a lot of buzz right now and Taylor’s showcase episode is the very first one so I can see her getting in. Dockery I have currently in 8th she defiantly might slide in and honestly I might just kick myself if she’s nominated because I doubt her every single year and she keeps crawling in ( Like Jim Carter).April 29, 2015 at 4:38 am #347683
I have Dockery as my sixth now. I hate that she keeps getting nominated. Personally though I wouldn’t nominate either of them, cause there are more deserving women in this category.April 29, 2015 at 5:15 am #347684
I’m not sure why Schilling seems to be so underestimated. I would be surprised if she isn’t nominated : her show is hot and critically acclaimed, she’s very good in it and the premier (which is the episode voters are the most likely to have seen) is focused on her and undoubtedly dramatic… what more do you need people ?
Dockery could get in, I’ve certainly gone wrong underestimating Downton Abbey in the past, and it seems like this season has been well received critically… but there’s just no room. I could entirely be wrong here, but I think this is the year she drops off. She’s definitely my number 7 though.April 29, 2015 at 6:53 am #347685
Schilling, but a lot of people are sleeping on Dockery per usual.April 29, 2015 at 7:34 am #347686
Schilling in, Dockery out like plaid skirts.April 29, 2015 at 8:02 am #347687
I think Schilling will knock out Dockery in that 6th slot. I don’t watch Downton, but from what I’ve heard Dockery didn’t really do much this season. She didn’t do much in Season 4 but she had that first episode recovering from Crawley’s death that may have turned some voters heads.April 29, 2015 at 8:02 am #347688
Since voters lazily check off the same names again and again, I’m guessing Dockery will get nominated again, but I’m hoping Schilling gets in over her, since Schilling would actually be a worthy winner based on her performance.
