After a quick debate, I went to research what shows have won more Emmys for acting in all categories (not counting Super Emmys and whatsoever), I came up to these shows and decided to share just in case:

    DRAMA:

    1. The Practice – 13 (8 in Guest)
    2. Picket Fences – 10 (3 in Guest)
    3. The Sopranos – 9
    3. The West Wing – 9
    3. Breaking Bad – 9
    3. The Waltons – 9
    7. Hill Street Blues – 8
    7. NYPD Blue – 8
    9. St. Elsewhere – 7
    9. Lou Grant – 7
    9. Cagney & Lacey – 7

    Almost there:
    The Handmaid’s Tale – 6
Caesar’s Hour (never seen, was this scripted?) – 6
    Thirtysomething – 6
    Columbo – 6
    Law & Order: SVU – 6 (5 in Guest)

    COMEDY

    1. The Mary Tyler Moore Show – 15 (1 in Guest)
    2. Frasier – 13 (5 in Guest)
    3. Cheers – 12 (1 in Guest)
    4. All in the Family – 11
    5. Everybody Loves Raymond – 10
    5. Murphy Brown – 10 (5 in Guest)
    5. Mad About You – 10 (6 in Guest)
    8. Will & Grace – 8 (3 in Guest)
    8. Taxi – 8
    8. Veep – 8

    Almost there:
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel – 6 (2 in Guest)
    M*A*S*H – 6
    Modern Family – 6
The Andy Griffith Show – 6

Have I missed a show? Have I counted anything wrong? Let me know!

Little different since it’s voiceover performance and some of them were juried awards, but The Simpsons has won 16 voice acting Emmys, with 10 different performers winning. (This was a quick count off the Emmy website search function.)

    Nancy Cartwright
    Jackie Mason
    Julie Kavner
    Hank Azaria (4)
    Harry Shearer
    Anne Hathaway
    Dan Castellaneta (4)
    Kelsey Grammer
    Marcia Wallace
    Yeardley Smith

Seeing all those wins for Mary Tyler Moore Show reminds me of how bad I feel for Gavin MacLeod. The only main cast member to never be nominated, for which is particularly bad when you know that, with the exception of the once nominated Georgia Engel, every single other member of the main cast won an Emmy. At least MacLeod got a few Globe nods.

What’s surprising is that on that Drama list, only the first 2 shows won guest Emmys. I know guest categories haven’t been around forever, but still, there are recent-ish shows on that list.

One of those wins for The Waltons was actually a guest appearance but they submitted in Lead and won due to the rule’s that year.

All In The Family has 11 acting wins:

    4 for Carroll O’Connor
    3 for Jean Stapleton
    2 for Sally Struthers
    2 for Rob Reiner

It is bad. I saw an acceptance speech made by Ted Knight and he mentioned Gavin.

What really shooked me was the fact that ”The Practice” won 5 years in a row in the male guest category for 5 different actors. I mean, wow!

All In The Family has 11 acting wins:

    4 for Carroll O’Connor
    3 for Jean Stapleton
    2 for Sally Struthers
    2 for Rob Reiner

thanks! somehow I didn’t count her last win in ’78!

Doris Roberts and James Coco were guests when they won for St. Elsewhere. They literally just appeared in one episode of the series, according to imdb.

(I know there weren’t guest categories when they won, but I think it is something important to remember)

Apparently the show even acknowledged it. I’m currently only on the second season, but I recall hearing about how they had an entire later on where the plot was based around MacLeod never being recognized with a story about how his character was the only person working for the channel who had yet to win an award.

Correction…Beulah Bondi won for the category “Lead Actress in a Single Performance.” That’s more of a guest win.

The Practice has 9 wins in guest categories, not 8.
