“Russian Doll” follows a young woman named Nadia, played by Lyonne, as she struggles to avoid death while escaping a New York City party. However, each death brings Nadia back to the evening’s beginning in typical “Groundhog Day” fashion. Lyonne co-created the show with Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland who also serve as executive producers. (Variety)
…the show is so striking and smart that I made a note to include it on my favorite TV shows of 2019 immediately after blowing through the season — which is saying something, since that was back in December of 2018.
This sounds promising to me. It has a chance to be an awards player if the reviews are similar to this one.January 21, 2019 at 1:19 pm #1202742191

I’ve just finished this in one sitting and I can say that this show is what Maniac tried to be. Natasha Lyonne’s character feels like an extension of her character from Orange is the New Black which is not bad because it gives the comedic material in a surprisingly dramatic storyline. The show definitely deserves to be nominated in comedy series, lead actress, and writing. I also wouldn’t mind a nomination in directing, but it just wasn’t as fancy as others. Hoping that Netflix really campaigns for this gem.February 1, 2019 at 12:46 pm #1202758277
I could see this getting writing and actress, maybe even series.February 1, 2019 at 12:49 pm #1202758282
This screams golden globe nominee and I mean that in a good way.February 1, 2019 at 1:45 pm #1202758338
This is getting way stronger notices than I had anticipated. Lyonne is a past nominee and has potential to get in but this category is very stacked. There is, I’m pretty sure, no turnover from last year and, to my mind, at least four strong on the bubble contenders in Bell, Brie, Fonda, and Kemper.February 1, 2019 at 9:11 pm #1202758642
Rarely happens, but I did not want it to end. Insanely entertaining . I’m a sucker for the same day over and over concept, and it’s used to great effect here.February 2, 2019 at 12:55 pm #1202759178
I thought for sure it would take me days to watch this. Nope, sure didn’t. 1 sitting!February 2, 2019 at 2:59 pm #1202759293
I liked it, but I wouldn’t want a 2nd season. The season ended fine anyways. I don’t think it’ll get nominated for anything anywhere, except maybe a GG nom for Lyonne if the Globes remember the show and they don’t have anyone really to nominate next year. Nevertheless I enjoyed Lyonne in the role and also liked Alan’s actor. It ended up being a weird concept tbh, and the ending felt too surreal to be satisfying, but I guess it made sense. Overall, it was funny and enjoyable.February 3, 2019 at 5:27 am #1202759935
Watched this three times already! Absolute favourite of this TV season ! Natasha Lyonne is just spectacular in this! Charlie Barnett was MVP for me, a revelation! Excellent writing and directing! Greta Lee was great as well. Your move Netflix, make it happen at the Emmys!February 3, 2019 at 8:50 am #1202760083
