I’ve only seen the first two episodes and this show it’s either gonna super flop (ir already did right?), or it’s gonna become a hit eventually because of how terrible it is. It worked for Under the Dome and its 3 seasons, but it didn’t work for Ringer. And it’s working with You, a show that can sink to this level quite easily, but manages to recover. That’s how bad this show is. It looks like something awful from the 90s, like Batman and Robin, Melrose Place, or some shit like that. Those shots of the sky at night with thunder are insanely bad and my favorite part of the show, along with Anne’s ridiculous building.
Renee Zellweger is a disaster in this. And I’m sorry to get into this AGAIN, or to talk about women and their looks…but she can’t move her mouth. She. Cannot. Move. Her. Mouth. She needs that to act. She can’t open it. It’s stuck thanks to the botox. This is a terrible performance.
Blake Jenner can’t act at all. Why is Jane Levy in this? Poor Dave Annable, can’t catch a break.
This show is 100%, definitely, obviously, surely and absolutely about 3 people and maybe the assistant and the finance director girl because they’re in Lisa’s project. But…who are those doctors and the gay guys? Where do they fit into this? Even if one of the guys is Lisa’s brother, it makes no sense. And you have to include the husband and his paramedic friend to get to the doctors. Seriously, what’s up with these characters? None of them could possibly end up in a scene with Zellweger’s character. It’s 3 shows in one right now.
It’s so fucking crazy that such a bad show is capable of making it to Netflix with that amount of episodes just like that. It would’ve been canceled before episode 3 on network tv.
Of course I’m gonna keep watching. I love this kind of mess. And I need to know how does the supporting cast fit into any of this.June 2, 2019 at 11:14 am #1202920560
This show is trashy, but I can’t stop watching. I’m on episode 5 and hooked. Zellweger is absolutely spectacular and acts circles around every single person in the cast. She’s divine.June 2, 2019 at 11:47 am #1202920574
Zellweger is giving me serious Jessica Lange-Coven vibes. She even kind of looks and talks (campy lines) like Lange.June 2, 2019 at 11:21 pm #1202921143
Why is there a slash in the title?June 3, 2019 at 5:37 am #1202921417

At least Jessica Lange’s acting was great, Renée’s isn’t. But that’s not totally her fault, her character is terribly written, she looks like, and acts, like a parody.June 3, 2019 at 6:10 am #1202921434
Watched the whole show in a few days and LOVED IT. Yes, it’s cheesy and over the top but that was kind of the point. Not every show is supposed be Emmy-Worthy or brainy like “The Wire”, some shows are designed to just be popcorn worthy TV. This show succeeds at that. It’s a throwback to the Aaron Spelling type shows of the 80’s and 90’s.
Renee was amazing and sold every second of it. She was giving me real Glenn Close as Patty Hewes vibes with a tiny bit of Viola Davis as Annalise Keaton thrown in.
Jane Levy has grown as an actress considerably since “Suburgatory” and Blake Jenner was good but had nothing of substance to do. But man was he nice to look at.June 3, 2019 at 6:11 am #1202921436
I’ve seen eight episodes and I still don’t get the title. Unless I missed something of course, but every episode title starts with, what a shocker, “what.”
The title “What/If” represents the eternal question of “What If I made a different choice” or “What If my life turned out differently.” I thought the title was pretty on point.June 4, 2019 at 2:17 pm #1202923493
I finished the season, and truthfully I enjoyed this so much for only Zellweger’s spectacular performance. She got relegated to supporting after episode six, which is really sad, because she was just delicious throughout the whole show. Not sure (okay, she can’t) she can compete with Arquette/Adams/Williams, but I love these scene-stealer campy performances. She *might* crack my personal top six for lead actress, but the might is pretty big.

This was my biggest complaint. If somehow these random B-and-C-plots connected to Zellweger’s character, even in some sort of soapy way, it would be have been stronger. The entire series would have been stronger if it was “The Renee Zellweger Show.” She was just fabulous.June 17, 2019 at 5:09 pm #1202942215
What the hell is going on with all those movie actresses? They decide to slam it on TV and they end up on shows like this one? First Halle with Extant then Naomi with Gypsy then Uma with Chambers and now Renee with What/If. I thought if they finally decide to do TV, they’re gonna do something worthy of their talents not trash shows with no redeeming qualities. Thank god some female movie stars will never do TV if this is the best it can offer them.
I think this is an unfair generalization. Especially considering Julia Roberts in “Homecoming” or Sissy Spacek in “Ozar” (or Laura Linney for that matter) or the entire cast of “Big Little Lies.”June 29, 2019 at 9:25 am #1202955995This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.June 29, 2019 at 10:14 am #1202956014
I just finished this .. and found it bad bad. Most of the supporting cast were just not good actors. N some subplots were not needed for a limited series. I did enjoy Renée Zellweger in this. N Jane Levy was good.
