Betty White is the logical choice, imo. In fact, I think they should’ve named the award after her.

Angela Lansbury, Cloris Leachman or Betty White are all excellent choices….

Seems weird for them to receive an award named after somebody their same age and from the same period. They all seem like equal legends. Like De Niro getting The Al Pacino Award or Glenn Close getting The Meryl Streep Award.

Seems like something for a Tracy Ullman, Julia Louis Dreyfus (Veep tribute for overlooking her for this role???) or younger like Fey/Poehler. People like that.

It’s only because it started now and Cecil B. DeMille won eons ago so it gives this feeling with the recent winners. However after DeMille won and named the award he had his peers like Walt Disney, Darryl F. Zanuck, Jean Hersholt, Jack L. Warner, Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Bob Hope etc receive it. They all worked and impacted the industry around the same time and most of them were the same age.
So it’s no less of a honor to someone like Betty White to receive this accolade as she’s in the same league of the previous legend that won. In 20 years (or less) when Poehler/Fey win it, we’ll get the same feeling we have for the film lifetime achievement but since they only started now, they have a long way of older television icons to reward it still.

Agreed. Lansbury receiving the award would be especially nice since it could be seen as a way of making up her for never winning an Emmy.

Yeah, I know people similar to De Mille got this award once upon a time. To me mainly because it was an earlier time and everybody who could/should be honored was in De Mille’s league. Not the case with a Burnett award since she became a real legend decades ago and now has a bunch of people who could get this honor who are much younger than her and could still be very worthy. Like Ullman who is like 25 years younger than Burnett and is very worthy and still 10 years older than a Tina Fey type who is also worthy.

It could very well be White or maybe even Lily Tomlin (and I know my post reads like her contemporaries would be insulted) but I just don’t think there’s an automatic need to predict women from Burnett’s time. Unlike De Mille when his award started, the options now are more diverse. It could still be a 40 something person and it would make sense.

They’re gonna want to reward older people because they don’t have as much time to do so. People like Ullman and Fey are most likely gonna live awhile longer so there’s less of a rush to reward them.

    It’s ELLEN DEGENERES.

As I mentioned, it ended up being somebody much younger than Burnett and in line with my comments.

What a stupid choice, especially after her tone-deaf comments about her friendship with George W. Bush.

Betty White should’ve been the only option for this year.

“No user starts this shady” - someone culturally relevant.

Also got banned because...reasons? So, I guess ciao.
