Schitt’s Creek has just broken The Marvelous Mrs Maisel’s record from 2018 and 2019 of most Emmys won in a single season for a Comedy Series.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

A random one from me which will need confirming…

Is David Rose the first Emmy winning character to be LGBT+ and not experience any homophobia on screen and/or not have a HIV/AIDS diagnosis?

This is an interesting stat and I have no idea what the right answer is, but as far as I remember, Rue Bennett (Zendaya from Euphoria) also didn’t experience any homophobia on screen and/or not have a HIV/AIDS diagnosis

7/16 of the acting winners were black. Surely this must be a record

    FYC :

    Best Actress - Viola Davis
    Best Actor - Delroy Lindo
Best Supp Actress - Glenn Close
Best Supp Actor - Chadwick Boseman

Zendaya is now the 2nd black woman to Lead Actress – Drama after Viola Davis. How poetic this stat gets broken in How to Get Get Away with Murder’s last Emmy eligible cycle.

The role was there and she won the Emmy. Well done Z.

Obviously you can make many permutations of Schitt’s Creek being the first comedy to go 7/7. (After 0, 0, 0, 0 nominations, then 0 wins; pretty astounding for a turnaround).

But I also find it notable that the last comedy to win all 7 during its entire run at all was Cheers, which did it 30 years ago when Danson finally got 1. So no comedies since then have been deemed the best at some point in their run for every category.

+ Schitt’s Creek is the first show to make a clean sweep in the main ceremony (series, lead actor, lead actress, supporting actor, supporting actress, directing, writing) since Angels in America.

I saw that originally Schitt’s Creek was being called the first Comedy or Drama to sweep the 4 main acting categories, which has now been amended to just the first comedy. Which Drama did this previously? Sorry if it’s been posted repeatedly, I was at work during the ceremony and couldn’t stay up to date with the forums.

Caesar’s Hour is the first comedy.

Sean Hayes and Eric McCormack won too. But Will & Grace has like 300 episodes, so they certanly had homophobic experiences.

Will and Grace had lots of homophobia of course.  Always nice to see a queer character not have go through a bunch of trauma to get recognized.

I saw some report that Dan Levy is only the second person to win all 4 of his categories after Alan Alda (MASH) but the only one to do it in one year.  Not sure but seems accurate.  The other winners of 4 in one year that I know of had at least one below the line.

And Sandra Oh calling Dan the “most Canadian” for apologizing for winning last night was brilliant.  Poor Sandra though.  I’m sure she’s set a record for Asian actress going without a win, but she’s almost the only one ever nominated so she might have had that record after 2 noms (1 nom?)

I believe (or at least in the second season of Killing Eve) if I’m not mistaken that Villanelle from Killing Eve did not experience any homophobia on screen.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

Sean Hayes and Eric McCormack won too. But Will & Grace has like 300 episodes, so they certanly had homophobic experiences.

His submissions were Jack never coming out to his mother and then doing so on thanksgiving. The other one was NBC not wanting to show two men kissing on tv.

So, homophobia and typical gay storylines on tv and film.

    – Don Cheadle, Steve Carell and Sandra Oh have, respectively, 10, 11 and 12 nominations to date without ever winning (every Don Cheadle nomination was for acting; Carell had nominations for producing The Office; and Oh had nominations for producing Killing Eve and hosting the Golden Globes);

    Well, the curse continues.

For the first time since 2003 HBO has won both Lead Actor and Lead Actress in a Drama Series in the same year and for the first time HBO has won both awards for performers from two different shows.

I think we can put the “What will HBO do without Game of Thrones??” questions to rest now. Not only is it doing fine, but it thrived this year and has great shows to carry it for years to come. (I am slightly worried about next year, but I think at this point, I’m worried about everything next year and not just HBO lol)
