My review is based only on the first episode. I will write my thoughts again when I get to see more of his performance. Also this show consolidated my opinion that Defending Jacob is the worst suburban mystery.
Oh ok. Sorry for my overexaggeration. I just thought you were saying there is no way it could be his best performance or that he will be a Lead which I thought was premature.
In other news the show has jumped in Rotten Tomatoes score? It’s now got a 73% critics score.

I actually liked this quite a bit, Nicole was really good and I also think Lily Rabe was very good in the call scene, even before, her delivery was sharpOctober 26, 2020 at 8:17 pm #1203804517
Debuts with 1.4 million viewers. On par with Lovecraft Country’s August premiere, higher than The Outsider’s premiere and just below the premiere of Watchmen.

Nicole Kidman: Breathes Gold Derby: she’s winning.
Has anyone said Kidman is winning since the reviews have come out?
I mean all anyone has said is that we’re underestimating her for a nom and/or a random win at SAG (because they love big names and loud performances from big names). I am pretty certain when it comes to the Emmy (win because she can still easily get the nom) that Kidman has almost no chance and I think everyone can agree with that. Especially considering how acclaimed and widely seen the performances of Anya Taylor-Joy and Michaela Coel are already.

Michaela Coel is not beating Kidman (Sadly) in a million years, maybe Anya Taylor-Joy if she starts her sweep with HFPA, Michaela Coel is just taking bafta homeOctober 27, 2020 at 7:07 am #1203805022
Barbara Streisand has raved about The Undoing , Bier’s direction and Kidman and Grant’s performances.October 27, 2020 at 9:13 am #1203805254
Hearing so many great things about The Queens Gambit. May have to check it out. People sound very confident in Taylor Joy but it’s worth mentioning that she has received unanimous acclaim by everyone in all of her high profile roles and still been overlooked. Granted, leading a Netflix series garauntees less awards bias than the horror films she’s done.
As for The Undoing, I loved it. Visually beautiful, great cast and set up for a thrilling mystery. People said it was going to be a well done but ultimately trashy series (which is great) but I didn’t find the pilot to lean into camp territory. It felt grounded. Kidman was unsurprisingly on her A game and is going to be excellent as Grace comes undone. She should be deservedly nominated and win awards for the role.
However, I wont be surprised if she gets shut out given how ridiculous awards shows have been recently.October 27, 2020 at 11:35 am #1203805728
I also enjoyed this. I was expecting much worse. The only thing I could have done without were those wide-eyed scenes with Kidman. Otherwise, definitely intrigued and I agree Lily Rabe was great.October 27, 2020 at 7:27 pm #1203806881
Regardless of its awards chances you cannot say that HBO and Kidman are not promoting and campaigning for this show a tonne.
Case in point (Academy Award and Emmy winner) Nicole Kidman has just appeared on a small British podcast with an actor who had a 3 season supporting role on a hit British drama that has only really been successful in the UK to promote and talk about The Undoing. Before Kidman the most famous person to have appeared on this podcast was Samantha Morton and then followed by pre Emmy winner Jodie Comer and Lennie James.
This is like if Sophia Loren suddenly decided to campaign for her new Netflix film that she suddenly appeared on Dax Shepherd’s podcast.October 27, 2020 at 8:59 pm #1203806997
It’s something I really like about Kidman. She’s been in the top 1% of the Hollywood A-list for 20 years now but she takes parts in projects and roles that actors of her stature wouldn’t usually be approached for purely because she responds to the material.
I always laugh at interviews she gives. She’s a very enigmatic person and it cracks me up every time she appears on Graham Norton and ends up being the butt of the joke and embraces it. Looking forward to listening to this podcast!October 28, 2020 at 10:30 am #1203807777
Seeing Lily Rabe on HBO is very aesthetically pleasing to me.

Best Actor: Anthony Hopkins (The Father)
