In my social circle, nobody is talking about or has seen any of those shows, with the exception of The Queens Gambit. Everyone has seen or knows of The Undoing. I’m in the UK and you can’t walk the length of yourself without seeing The Undoing plastered on a billboard. All of the mentioned shows will be “old news” by the time Emmy nominations are announced and that includes The Queens Gambit; someone like Nicole Kidman should be the least concerned about being forgotten. I see them snubbing her because she’s so popular and prolific that they will spread the wealth elsewhere, but not because she wasn’t memorable in The Undoing or because the performance wasn’t there.

The Undoing has been a big hit here in the UK (with both audiences and critics) but in no way is it more talked about in the zeitgeist than I May Destroy You. People in the industry I know still talk about it non-stop and people in my social circles who hardly even watch television literally changed their profile pictures to pictures of Michaela Coel on the show.

FYC Emmys: "The Crown" in all categories, "I May Destroy You" in all categories, "It's a Sin" in all categories, "Small Axe" in all categories, Billie Piper ("I Hate Suzie"), Yvonne Strahovski ("Stateless") and Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials")

In the states The Undoing and The Queen’s Gambit are very popular. Probably TQG more so just because so many people have Netflix and people have been watching it at various times during the second half of the year. I will say that The Undoing was trending on Twitter for several hours every night it was on. These two are definitely more popular than any other show mentioned.

I can understand saying (to an extent at least) that the likes of IMDY and Small Axe are more talked about but The Good Lord Bird? That’s just a next level reach for whatever reason. If there is a show among the aforementioned ones that’ll be forgotten by Emmy voting, it will most definitely be this one.

Finally someone said it. Perhaps it’s because I’m in the UK but outside of these forums I’ve seen no buzz for The Good Lord Bird and I’ve seen no discussion of it as a big contender. I think it will just get a lone Hawke nom at the Globes.

I can’t lie – I’ve read a few of Liane Moriarty’s books and liked them, but I haaated this one. I’m intrigued to see how they bring this from page to screen, and to see if Nicole can keep up the accent, but as a storyline it doesn’t scream awards contender. The teaser gave me more horror movie vibes that it actually is.

    FYC:
Ego Nwodim ("SNL"), Nico Santos ("Superstore"), Lolly Adefope ("Shrill"), MJ Rodriguez ("Pose"), Kate Winslet, Julianne Nicholson ("Mare of Easttown"), Punam Patel ("Special")

From that teaser, that looks like another binge-watchable hit for Miss Kidman.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I read the book, and I agree this teaser seems to give off horror movie/cult leader vibes. The book starts slow, but things get interesting once they’re at the retreat. I’m so excited to see Samara Weaving in this, as well as Asher Keddie (she was really good in Stateless).</p>

The Russian accent is very subtle in the teaser. I don’t know why I expected a full on Eastern Promises stereotypical Russian accent.

Pretty stoked. These are the roles in which Kidman excels.

Pantheon of acting: Uta / Elizabeth / Richard / Sandy (Virginia Woolf), Bibi / Liv (Persona), Sandrine (La Ceremonie), Brie (Short Term 12), Jodie (Silence of the Lambs), Jodie (Killing Eve), Nicole (The Others), Eva (Penny Dreadful), Timothée (CMBYN), Lupita (Us)

I wonder why Hulu aren’t airing it for this season if it’s ready? Does that say something about its quality or are they going for a summer airing for commercial reasons?

Nicole had said that they had changed couple of things from book.

    I can’t wait.

Maybe Nicole Kidman contract had that she couldn’t compete in two limited series at same time. Hence why they are waiting for The Undoing to finish awards run.

Glad to hear that they changed things from the book. The book was awful, I’m hoping that they’ve improved upon it.

Emmys FYC: Maya Erskine in PEN15, Paapa Essiedu in I May Destroy You, Keeley Hawes in It's a Sin, Carl Lumbly in TFATWS, Cristin Milioti in Made for Love, Elizabeth Olsen in WandaVision, Billie Piper in I Hate Suzie, Hailee Steinfeld in Dickinson, William Zabka in Cobra Kai
