Official ABC “The Family” thread: Emmy vehicle for Joan Allen?

I’ve just realized ABC The Family is premiering this Thursday.

The trailer is intriguing and the cast is great (Joan Allen, Allison Pill, Zach Gilford..).

Watching the trailer I was thinking: the pilot could easily be a potential submission for Joan Allen, if nominated.

What do you think? Hit or miss?

I always assume that a network show will be bad and this one is from a Scandal writer.

Good cast though that also includes Rupert Graves (DI Lestrade in Sherlock), who brought along Sherlock pilot director Paul McGuigan.

Look for me in the ten-years-ago scenes!

When the trailers for all new shows came out last May, this one grabbed me immediately. In fact, it might’ve been my favorite trailer for all the new network shows. Great cast and the story looks very good. I’ve read some very favorable reviews, so I’m excited to see if this show really brings it.

The show looks fantastic and it’s getting B-range reviews for the most part, which isn’t bad! Will definitely be tuning in. Love me some Joan Allen and Allison Pill.

I also hear Andrew McCarthy is fantastic in this.

This looks like an exhausting show to watch. The kid isn’t really theirs. Constant discord. Everyone in the family has SECRETS! No thank you. But yay if Joan Allen has a hit on her hands. She certainly deserves the career resurgence.

I love Joan Allen and think she is criminally underrated, but the writing on this show is so bad and obvious. She deserves MUCH MUCH better than this. I’m not sure I can watch future episodes. 

Someone give this lady something GOOD. Room was a wonderful start.

Starts with a horrid 0.8 in its timeslot premiere. It’ll be lucky to finish its order, as that’s worse than fall flop Blood & Oil.

I guess ABC could claim it’s a Miniseries like with Actress nominee Missing, but it could fail even then.
