The show was very uneven, but it’s so twisted that I’ll give it a pass for now.  For me, the main plus is watching the interactions between Connie Britton and Jessica Lange.

^Yeah, the scenes between Connie and Jessica were the only things that worked, Jessica being indelibly over-the-top, while Connie acts completely annoyed and confused. Those scenes had just the right mix of comedy and tension. But you know you’re in for a hot mess of a series if a Ryan Murphy show starts off overwrought and uneven. I don’t think he has the desire (or ability at this point) to make it better.

Well, I am perhaps slightly more optimistic than you, More Brill.  I also liked the housekeeper– Frances Conroy, who knew?    And the general concept that everyone is perceiving something different, although in excecution, the concept does have some flaws so far.  At any rate, I’m game to keep watching at least for now, but then I’m usually game to give anything with a horror theme a chance.

I’m disliking Ryan Murphy with every fiber of my body, but I did enjoy the majority of this pilot. The last 20 minutes however were too much. I know there wasn’t much horror before this last act, but this really didn’t bring the series to another level. But, it did make me want to know what’s going on in that house, and that was the purpose of it, right.

I like the fact that there are so many creepy people around the house to create more excitement and suspicion. I’m really interested to get to know more of Jessica Lange’s and Frances Conroy’s characters, whereas Denis O’Hare’s appearance felt a bit random just to bring another weirdo to the scene.

David Schwimmer uhh..Dylan McDermott, I’m sorry, really was kind of cringe-worthy, especially in that yelling scene. Although Britton did not shine in that scene either, but throughout I thought she did a good job. And now she’s pregnant from a stranger in an SM suit

Lange and Conroy stole this, IMO.. Its certainly bizarre, and I will definitely give this first season a shot. Connie Britton is a good actress, I’m just not sure I like her character all that much. She kind of lost me when she grabbed that kid..

Not the best Pilot I’ve ever seen, FAR from the worst.

I really enjoyed the premiere, ok there are problems with the editing but it’s no enough to make me quit, I loved certain scenes and really LOVED the whole cast, about the highlights ?

the scene in the basement with Violet/Blond Bitch/Tate really disturbed me lol

about the cast: Pete Evans really impressed me, Britton is really good, McDermott is not that bad, but oh my gosh, Jessica Lange was outstanding, amazed me!

I think I’ve read the term “hot mess” in reference to this show at least three or four times since the premier… and maybe several times more, before it even aired.  I think they just gave away too much in the first episode. The house is haunted. Check. Everyone in and around the grounds (neighbor, maid(s), patient, latex dude, twins, etc) are ghosts. Check. Unfortunately, I don’t care how they became ghosts. It doesn’t even matter.  I do agree that the interactions between Lange and Britton were good, and was the only thing that worked. Even Frances Conroy, who I love and adore, was dull. Not her fault, of course. Basically, to me, this was a smorgasbord of strange visuals and wacky, creepy characters, but in no way was it a satisfying meal. I’d rather dine at Los Pollos Hermanos.

I now see why Murphy and Co. would want to make a comedy in the first place. If that type of dialogue keeps up, bring in a little bit of Glee, and you’ll have American Rocky Horror Story.

God, this was awful. I don’t watch FNL, but I’ve heard so much good things about Britton that I at least expected her to be good… but no, she was merely not as awful as the others.

This is just an insult to human intelligence. Seriously. I don’t even fathom how one can possibly genuinely like this. Except in a so bad it’s good kind of way, but even then… no. Just no.

I was really looking forward to this, have to say, but the pilot left me disappointed and unimpressed.

I’m curious to see how Jessica Lange and Frances Conroy are used, and I want to see Zachary Quinto in something non-genre, so I’ll stick around for a bit. It’s not fair to judge a show by its pilot, but it really felt like a mess.
