**** out of ****
This gut-busting outing of TV’s by-far best animated series becomes only the third comedy episode of the year that I’m giving four stars (following The Middle‘s “The Map” and Raising Hope‘s “Jimmy’s Fake Girlfriend”). The show once again finds hilariously inappropriate mayhem by placing a dead body in Malory’s apartment (which was also the theme in the Season 1 high-water mark episode “Killing Utne”). Seems Malory’s been having a decades-long affair with the Italian Prime Minister, which upsets Archer on two fronts–one, Mom’s kinky sex; and two, he thought Italy had a king. Now the PM is dead and wearing a full-body latex suit in a slick nod to channel-mate American Horror Story. (The difference, of course, being that Archer is intentionally funny.)
Out of this situation, we have Archer’s philosophical riff on whether he can ever eat spaghetti and meatballs again; we undoubtedly set a record for the number of times the word “dildo” is used in a half hour of television; we see Dr. Kriger in a creepy gas mask; we see that Malory has a random and unreasonable hatred for the Irish (her Christmas gift to her Irish superintendent is a potato, prompting her to tell him, “Now you have the classic Irish conundrum–do I eat the potato or wait for it to ferment and drink it?”); and we get another reference to Lana’s unusually large hands (per Archer, “They’re like cricket bats”). All this plus a twist ending!
Sheer outlandish genius. Emmy voters–please wake up and be aware that this series and H. Jon Benjamin are due statuettes this year. Make this happen or suffer dire consequences–involving an eggplant.February 24, 2012 at 5:10 am #237881
Woo-hoo! Season 4!February 24, 2012 at 8:16 am #237882
Brilliant show! One of the funniest around. Hope it gets some recognition from the Emmys this year, at least in the Animated Program category.
Great news about the renewal btw!February 25, 2012 at 7:31 pm #237883
Just watched the entire show over this last week. This is easily one of the funniest shows in years. I finally get why my peers that watch this show compare me to both Cyril and Archer….February 27, 2012 at 8:32 am #237884
Another strong episode with “Bloody Ferlin”, which featured a hilarious voice performance from Jack McBrayer–some of his best work. Cheryl trying to figure out how to pluck the rooster was hilarious (that shot of her shaving it with cream and a Bic was a riot). Also, this great pure-Archer exchange:
Archer: What’s the matter with me?
Ray: You drank too much!
Archer: That’s a thing?March 9, 2012 at 1:16 am #237885
Just saw “Skin Game.” All I can say is goddam it, Archer!! Why did the show have to be like that? i did like that very human moment at the end, with both Archer feeling love and happiness for his cyborg wife, and that killer homage to The Graduate.March 9, 2012 at 8:13 am #237886
The show has been killing it this season. Great stuff.March 16, 2012 at 8:40 am #237887

Awesome ending to an awesome season. Brilliant writing throughout. Whoever writes the dialogues is a genius. Shame it has to end. Can’t wait for next season.
Highlight of the season for me: Archer’s voicemails I’m half tempted to record one myself.March 23, 2012 at 12:30 pm #237889
Archer’s Animal Farm riff nearly had me asphyxiated with laughter.
