Everything is set up beautifully for the season finale. Really surprised about Wendy taking the loss like she did with her medical license. Someone’s going down, and I can’t figure out who it will be. With all of these openings this year, I’d love to see this show receive a genuine Emmy breakthrough. Damian Lewis, Paul Giamatti, Jeffrey DeMunn (he’s been on fire this season), Maggie Siff (robbed every season), and Asia Kate Dillon would make great acting nominees. Nina Arianda would have been perfect in guest actress drama had she not met the episode cap. Drama Series would be more than earned, as well as writing/directing nods for the stunning fourth episode of the season (“Overton Window”). I’m predicting that “Succession” will land many of these nods in such a similar landscape, as well as being newer with a better/stronger campaigning network. Adore that series too, but there’s plenty of room for both at the table.

This was an incredible finale. The one thing I wanted to see more than anything was a return to the Chuck/Axe feuding, and this time with Taylor in the middle of that is nothing short of brilliant. I’m seeing an end game vision here, so if season 5 is it (you never know which shows get the Showtimeitis treatment like “Weeds” and “Nurse Jackie,” and then shows that end far before their time like “Masters of Sex” and “Huff”), so be it. Kind of a roundabout way for Chuck to gain his revenge against his enemies, but I kinda liked that? Doing the well-worn trick of retconning past episodes for the “idiot” scheme reveal usually would make my eyes roll to the back of my head, but it was used to great effect. Poor Connerty lol. I’m glad Wendy got her medical license back. Did I sense some sexual tension at the end between Axe and Wendy? That might be the crux of next season and really drive Chuck over the edge with Axe. Paul Giamatti was fantastic in this episode. It took me awhile to get onboard with Axe’s actions, which were just horrid to Rebecca. I desperately wanted Nina Arianda to become a series regular, but I see that’s not meant to be. Damian Lewis was doing much more slow-burn type work than he usually does. Thrilling season from start to finish. I’m done thinking that the Emmys will ever notice, but nods for Lewis, Giamatti, Siff, Dillon, Arianda, and DeMunn would all be warranted. Writing and directing nods for the superb “Overton Window” episode. Already can’t wait for season five!
