Tonight marks the two episode season (and likely series) finale!

Episode: Talking Points Toward a Wholistic View of Activism in Government: Can the Top Rebel?

Synopsis: Laurel warns Luke about Red’s budget, leading to a Senate sit-in; Red and Ella battle over control of the bug agenda; Laurel considers leaving Washington permanently.

    and

Episode: The End of All We Hold Dear: What Happens when Democracies Fail: A Brief Synopsis

Synopsis: Laurel believes she knows the secret to coax the bugs out of people’s brains and tests her method out on her father; later, with Gareth’s help, she tries to do the same on Red in order to kill the Queen.

I’m holding out hope for Mary Elizabeth Winstead and/or Tony Shalhoub to get Golden Globe noms seeing as how this sadly hasn’t been a critical darling either.

I doubt BrainDead gets any attention at the Golden Globes, not only because it’s been billed as a summer “popcorn” series, but also because we’ve seen how much the HFPA dislikes political series. If Veep and Julia Louis-Dreyfus have had such difficulty gaining traction, I can’t imagine this show would. I do think that of the entire cast, you’re right that Shalhoub and Winstead would have the best chances of getting in based on name his recognition and her appeal to them as an ingenue.

Ah what a delightful fun show. I hope it sticks around even if the ending wrap things up nicely but I think with the final shot with a bug still around suggests there could be more. I did think the final showdown to get the bug out of Shalhoub’s ear was a bit anticlimatic but overall it was a nice finale.

I really enjoyed the BrainDead season finale and particularly loved the whole season, now that we’ve seen the complete product. The finale served its purpose, wrapping up the narrative nicely in the likely instance that we don’t get another season of the show, while also setting up the transition of setting from the politics of Washington, D.C. to Wall Street and New York City. It’s been Robert and Michelle King’s concept from the very beginning that each season would transition to a different setting, so I don’t think they rewrote or shoe-horned any material into this episode worrying about the fate of the series.

The first few episodes didn’t seem to have a great grasp of the tone for the series, but from the midway mark to the end it was a tremendously fun and smart series. Kudos to the entire cast, especially Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Aaron Tveit, Tony Shalhoub, and Danny Pinto, and to the Kings for writing a self-contained narrative with a beginning and sensible (for the BrainDead universe, anyway) end.

I will be so sad if / when the series gets canceled, but I’m glad we got to see all twelve episodes play out. Now the wait for The Good Wife spin-off in the Spring.

Great interview with Robert and Michelle King from HitFix today:

Unfortunately, they admit things are not looking good for another season:

HF: How are things looking for a season 2?

Robert King: I don’t think good.

Michelle King: Nothing has been said definitely. But we did construct it in such a way that the ending of season 1 tells a full story.

Fun if they really do not end up putting “Season 1″/”The Complete Series”:
This has to be preliminary, right?

Not surprising, but disappointing news nevertheless:

At least the season wrapped up its narrative well! I came to really enjoy the tone of the show and the awesome cast. I’ll definitely miss this one.
