I still watch it too, and season 4 was my favorite so far, so I’m excited for it to come back.January 2, 2012 at 2:39 am #235810
I enjoyed the premiere. I am a Hank fan really… the show I could care less about honestly. Runkle is cool though.January 2, 2012 at 8:47 am #235811

I really liked the time jump in the season premeire, and I think it worked really well in the episode. There were a good amount of laughs in the episode. Natlie Zea from Justified had a good cameo. Runkle finally got to 100! The last two seasons of the show have been pretty hit or miss to me, but I really liked this premeire. I loved the note that the episode ended on, very fitting for this show.

That was the way to do a time jump without it feeling like a time jump. Natalie Zea and RZA almost stole the episode from David Duchovny, who still has that effortless appeal that grounds a character that could be pretty awful in lesser hands. Becca dating a Hank-type boyfriend is a bit too easy, but I do like Karen marrying that guy from before (I think he was her teacher or something that got so drunk he would run around the yard naked) and Hank’s connection with Samurai’s gilrfriend. I didn’t care too much about Charlie’s scenes, but anytime Pamela Adlon is on, she makes the most of her screentime in her awesomely crass way. Hoping for a strong season. The previews looked very promising.

Episode Title: “The Way of the Fist”
Synopsis: Hank passes on scripting rapper/actor Samurai Apocalypse’s film, but the performer won’t take no for an answer and drags Hank to a meeting with director Peter Berg, who has a lot more in common with Hank than they both care to admit; Samurai later decides to help an unwilling Becca sever ties with Tyler; little Stuart causes problems at preschool when he flashes a female classmate.

This episode played into some unnecessary and unfortunate stereotypes, but I guess since RZA is funny and clever here, things balance themselves out and it’s “okay.” The content is still as crude as it ever was, but the cast grounds it all beautifully like it’s nothing at all. Peter Berg was good here. Kind of forgot that he acts too. David Duchovny should have at least one Emmy nod for this series by now. It’s criminal that he doesn’t.

Yeah, this show is what it is. I enjoy the filth. I think Hank Moody is a fascinating and fun character, a male fantasy but that is the beauty of fiction. I choose to embrace how absurd the premise of this show is as long as it keeps me amused and gives me one liners to repeat.January 16, 2012 at 9:43 am #235821
I didn`t enjoy this episode as much as the premeire, but it still had it`s moments. I did like Berg`s guest spot in this episode. I thought it was funny when Runkle masterbated in front of Ava`s mom. I also really liked Marcy bursting out laughing in the principal`s office. “She`s so cute, but she`s a little tweaked right.” We all knew Tyler was a douchebag, and I`m glad he got beat up. I think RZA has worked pretty well on the show so far. Meagan Good hasn`t had a lot to do so far, but she definitely will in the upcoming episodes I`m sure.
