The new singing competition series starring Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, and Robin Thicke as judges and mentors debuts tonight. Tell us your thoughts on tonight’s episode!May 25, 2012 at 7:52 am #244601
I missed the first half an hour, but it’s hard to go wrong when 4 of my fav singers are on the show. Watching it, I was a little dumbfounded that all 4 of them are on one show.
– Within 10 seconds, I didn’t like the host.
– As judges, they said absolutely nothing negative at all. If they are going to be judges, they need to critique. They can’t just say everyone was awesome…cause everyone wasn’t.
But yeah, this is an interesting concept. What I found most impressive is how friggin good these 4 singers are as you could see them having to improvise/compensate a little live on stage when their duet partner wasn’t up to par. Was fascinating watch them work.
Those first 2 (that ended up being at the top of the leader board) must have been great cause I don’t know how they could be better than that guy that sang “Stay” with Jennifer, and how the heck did that girl singing “Stronger” with Kelly end up at the bottom?

^Jennifer’s first guy J. Rome was great, he really was. John Legend’s first guy Johnny was good, but I don’t think he should’ve been rated as highly as he was. I agree that Kelly’s last pick shouldn’t have been in the bottom.May 25, 2012 at 12:12 pm #244603
Gave it a shot. No thanks.May 25, 2012 at 5:10 pm #244604
I respect Jennifer, Kelly, Robin and John, but I just can’t get into another singing competition.May 25, 2012 at 7:49 pm #244605
They need to bring some drama to the proceedings. Having all the judges praise every single contestant and then be able to score anonymously is ridiculous. Obviously there’s a reason that they gave one singer higher ratings than the other. They need to disclose that. There’s absolutely no critiquing or debate going on at this point, even though the performers are being ranked.May 25, 2012 at 9:47 pm #244606
I missed the first 1/2 hr or so but I just didn’t get ranking thing at all. It seems the others will low score a good person to keep their contestant in the game longer. Kelly’s people should not have been all the way at the bottom and I agreed with her when she said it was suspect.May 25, 2012 at 10:16 pm #244607
I don’t get it.
I feel like ABC watched an episode of The Voice, asked Stan from Development to tweak it, and then dumped some money into it to get the four judges involved (three of whom have, not coincidentally, worked as advisors on The Voice).
Nah. Pass.May 25, 2012 at 10:44 pm #244608
I really love Kelly, but I think this won’t work. Just let her join The Voice Season 4 when they’ll have judges overhaul. This is not working for me, and I can’t believe both of Kelly’s talents were the lowest scorers.I like how she’s so genuine all throughout the show, that’s why I want this to work, but it simply isn’t. I’ll probably stick for one more episode, but it’s such a chore for me to do. I guess all for the love of Kelly.May 26, 2012 at 2:57 am #244609

Yeah, it’s so easy for the judges to give other contestants a lower score in order to give them a lower ranking. Kelly’s second contestant was horrible. She’s the one who should’ve been in the bottom, not the guy. In fact, the guy (Jason? I don’t remember.) didn’t even deserve to be in the bottom 2.
Both of Robin Thicke’s contestants were forgettable. So was the girl that John Legend picked.
Jennifer Nettles easily had the best contestants. J Rome did well and held his own, especially during the long glory notes. But John should’ve been the one on top, not J Rome. That “Stay” duet was, hands down, the best of the night. Even Kelly Clarkson was crying. Jennifer also seems to be the most invested in this whole thing. I’m making an early prediction — someone from Team Jennifer is gonna win.
The show doesn’t have me hooked yet, but I like Jennifer & Kelly enough to keep watching. They both deserve better though.May 26, 2012 at 8:00 am #244610
Ugh, Jerome turns his name to J Rome…please….but he was clearly the best of the 8 people who performed.
The show however seems like an excuse for ABC to have a singing competition, something somebody thought of in two minutes and they gave it a greenlight. It’s not very exciting to watch, the only song I might have wanted to hear perform was Stronger and they did an awful job with it rightfully earning the last place in the ranking. Both of Kelly’s contestants deserve the spots they were given.
What’s bad about this though is that they’re pimping the stars just like on The Voice, but they pretend like we’re going to see them duet for the whole 9 weeks of the show. However, Kelly already has the lowest (deserved) ranks, so their biggest draw has all the chances of never doing a duet for the last 5-6 weeks of the competition. They should’ve paid more attention to her picks.
I don’t like Robin Thicke’s attitude either, he’s the least known and succesful of these 4 by a mile and he pretends to be something bigger than that. And Jennifer Nettles can get on my nerves pretty quickly too with her over the top and loud attitude.
I’ll give it another shot, but there isn’t a hit in this at all. Everybody deserves better than this.May 29, 2012 at 5:02 am #244612
This show stinks.May 30, 2012 at 9:17 am #244613
This show needs some drama and controversy. It’s too vanilla.May 30, 2012 at 7:17 pm #244614
I forgot it was on. Haven’t heard much buzz about it in the past week.May 31, 2012 at 12:57 pm #244616
My biggest concern is that it doesn’t showcase the contestant’s voice. I know that’s the entire concept of the show but how will we know if these singers can stand on their own? At this rate (and with the immense talents of the mentors), they’d be nothing more than back-up singers or front acts.
