For those of us at Gold Derby who watch the show, tonight marks the season 5 premiere of Madam Secretary at 10/9c on CBS.

    Episode: E Pluribus Unum

This was a very strong opener. I hate that Leoni has gotten no awards traction for this. Her speech at the end was perfection. I just love her in this role because she gets to show so many facets of Elizabeth McCord: funny, romantic, mom, diplomat, worried, smart, caring, savvy. It’s now in first run syndication so I was able to watch some of the first episodes these past few weeks.

Another great episode last night. Phyllis Somerville’s role wasn’t huge but it had great impact. I knew when I saw her that it would be great. It was also great to see Sara Ramirez back after being gone for the first 3. The scene with her in the senator’s office was great. My favorite Bess scenes were the ones where she was meeting the president of the Philippines in the gym (hey there for SVU tech guy Joel de la Fuente!) and where she tells Alison why she should vote. It’s something all Americans should hear.

Still such a wonderful & underrated show. I hate that Tea Leoni has never come close to awards traction for it. It should have been their new The Good Wife.

Sometimes i don’t know if they are making fun of Russia being behind everything bad that happens or actually view it as seriously believing Russia is behind all that’s bad! Like if the show did an episode about the protests in France right now- secretly organized by Russia! Serbs and Albanians don’t need Russians to feed their conflict!
