Season premiere was last night, but there’s no thread, so here goes…
Episode 4.01: The Last Wedding
In the Season 4 premiere, Jess attends a wedding with the guys and makes a pact for each of them to hook up with someone by the end of the night. As the evening progresses, Jess competes with another woman for the best man’s attention; Schmidt and Nick entertain an unusual proposal; Winston recuperates from police academy; and Coach realizes that every woman at the reception is already familiar to him.
I thought this was a pretty good episode. As someone who really liked season one and LOVED season two, I was with the crowd that thought season three was a major step down. That said, I’m rooting for the show to make a comeback this year, and tonight seemed like a good step in the right direction. The wisest decision was downplaying the Nick/Jess breakup, even when it could’ve been smuggled into the bathroom scene. I actually really liked Jessica Biel here, and Reid Scott was good, but it’s not like he had any opportunity to be better with what he was given. Overall, a good episode. Not great, but definitely good, and if they can consistently deliver episodes of that quality, or better, then this should help the show rebound.September 17, 2014 at 10:46 am #333425
An ok bottle episode to start the season. The dynamic of the group is good and even though Nick and Jess are not together there chemistry is just so strong and they work together. Jessica Biel is someone who I loved all the way back in Ulee’s Gold and as she has grown up she has become such a forgettable actress of the many actresses named Jessica but I though she was good on the show. I too loved season 2 and really liked season 1 and while there were good moments to season 3 I will admit there were lower lows.September 17, 2014 at 12:12 pm #333426
lol I rofl with Nick’s Hooves hands . Pretty good premiere, hope they
can keep this pace and improve, be more season 2 and less season 3.September 17, 2014 at 12:47 pm #333427
I thought that this was a fun opening episode for the season. I’m impressed with how the show has grown as an ensemble. I think back to the first season when the focus was on the four roommates. It was very funny then, but I think the added focus on characters like CeCe and the re-introduction of Coach has only improved things, provided more storyline possibilities, and added different layers of jokes, while still not detracting from the talents of the original four. I’m surprised that this show was pretty much shut out of the Emmys after their first season. It’s also disheartening to see how the audience has dropped off. The show is just as cute, clever, and quirky as ever, and that’s a very good thing.September 17, 2014 at 1:13 pm #333428
The second season snubb is one of the worst in emmy history, should’ve cleaned directing, writing, series and actor.September 18, 2014 at 7:57 am #333429
The premiere episode was very good, and a relief considering how much I disliked season three from the first episode of it. They’re doing a good job with the characters now, where I think last season everyone was all “me me me” and “insult insult insult.” These are the weird, complicated friends I know and love. There were a lot of funny moments, and this was literally the first time I’ve liked Jessica Biel in anything ever.September 19, 2014 at 7:55 am #333430
This was the best New Girl season premiere in all of the 4 seasons! I laughed outloud several times during the episode.
I loved the cut-to-breaks with Jess talking about the ‘sex fist’ and Winston’s explanation of the 4-way to Schmidt and Nick using salt and pepper. HAHA! Also, Nick’s facial expressions will continue to be one of the best parts of this show.
BTW I was personally a fan of the 2nd half of Season 3 (‘Mars Landing’ was one of my all time favorite episodes) even though the first half of the season stunk. But so far from the looks of it, New Girl has regained its mojo thanks to the super clever and sharp writing. Looking forward to Season 4!
PS I still don’t see the need to have Coach in this show… but maybe I’m just still bitter about Happy Endings.September 25, 2014 at 6:56 am #333431
This week’s episode was about equal parts dumb and funny. The Jess/Schmidt story was good, even though Jess was being so very dense, and there were some great lines thrown in there. Actually, a lot of the episode felt like a lot of good lines that aren’t really related to each other smooshed together into a pseudo-plot. Still, I laughed so hard at “I’m not gay, but I would go so crazy on Michael Strahan.” The whole pot storyline just felt dumb and over the top to me, but maybe I just don’t know enough about getting stoned to appreciate it.September 25, 2014 at 8:55 am #333432
Funny episode, not as LOL funny as the premiere but still I like the pace of the show and the fact that the writers essentially pressed the ‘restart’ button on all relationships in the loft. Deschanel and Greenfield play off each other so well, and the scenarios where Jess was reading Schmidt’s cue cards he prepared for her were hilarious. Her deadpan delivery was spot-on. While the pot storyline was a little fluffy, it did add a little bit of silliness. Parts of Season 3 actually got a little too dramatic and serious (although New Girl generally does pull that off well), so to see a narrative like this was pretty enjoyable. Nick is continuing to deliver – love it.September 27, 2014 at 7:55 am #333433
I wish they will up Cece’s storyline this season!September 27, 2014 at 10:38 am #333434
I haven’t watched this show in a while and ordered the latest episode and boy am I glad I did. Greenfield was hysterical.September 27, 2014 at 10:55 am #333435
“Ma said the Bees are back” was hilarious.October 3, 2014 at 3:38 pm #333436
That last episode was stunning. “Say Pizza one more time” had me rolling lol. Cece has been on fire this season.October 10, 2014 at 8:39 am #333437
I thought this was a terrific episode, season 2 quality is back everyone!!!!!! The asian weist, kitten nipples thing had me rolling, absolutely unlike anything from all of season 3.November 7, 2014 at 7:02 pm #333438
That end of that last episode was very good, Couch and Duquan killed it hahahaha. Also, Nick and his weird Fish stuff always get me rolling feeding cereal flakes to all small animals.
“Squirrels can live through it, chipmunks can live through it. Anything that lives half in and out of water dies, and I don’t understand why. ” Oh god. LOL
