Episode 1×01: “Pilot”
Dean pilots the Clipper Majestic’s first New York to London flight; Maggie picks up a flight when the scheduled stewardess doesn’t show; Kate takes a U.S. Intelligence assignment.September 25, 2011 at 8:49 pm #229051
I truly enjoyed this, I will probably watch it next week 😀September 25, 2011 at 8:57 pm #229052
I really liked this and loved Christina Ricci’s character (Globe nom?) but i wasn’t a big fan of Kate’s mission. Visuals were beautiful though!

Visuals were spectacular, but overall, this was a bit of a snoozefest for me. I will definitely hold on a few more episodes….. if for no other reason than holding out due to lack of decent network drama pilots this season, and this was one of the best so far.September 25, 2011 at 11:17 pm #229054
My interest struggled to stay with it. I was surprised by the lack of leading material Christina Ricci received. This is definitely more of an ensemble piece than just her show. I’ll give it a couple of more weeks. It was indeed time for the canceling of “Brothers and Sisters” after five some-good-some-uneven seasons, but I don’t know if “Pan Am” is worthy of having the post-DH slot. We’ll see.

You can’t really have Christina Ricci as the star of a show and have her appear this little on the Pilot. I came out thinking Kelli Garner was the star.
I thought it was just o.k. It’s amazing to look at, I’m very much into this style and the aviation aspect only made it better, but that can’t be enough for me to actually like a show for several episodes.
I wish it wouldn’t been faster and cooler, the CIA angle didn’t quite work because of this, but I’m grateful that she show has it, because a show about hot girls on an airplane and having affairs wasn’t going to cut it.
I feel like Schlamme was more into setting up the style of the show (amazing shots) than the characters and the story (slow scenes, not the best acting and so on). Not a big fan of the cast either, we’ll see.
I’ll give it another try.September 26, 2011 at 5:54 pm #229056
It was Fun…Loved the Clothes…But in the first scene Christina’s hair was long, and by the time she was on the plane, it was short.September 26, 2011 at 7:24 pm #229057
This was much better than I thought it would be. I liked the sharp writing and the brisk direction by Thomas Schlamme. Its characters are intelligent, articulate, and interesting (though the blond bombshell newbie was an underwritten cliche). The plot is overstuffed a bit: I don’t think we really needed the politics or the spy angle, at least not in episode one, and the Bay of Pigs scene was kinda silly. But apart from those quibbles, this was probably my favorite network pilot of the season so far. Low bar to clear, but still.September 26, 2011 at 7:58 pm #229058

I noticed this too!!! But I thought it was a Pan Am thing since none of them had it long, maybe it was the hairdo and we didn’t get a scene where she makes it short, but the it was like “common! you can’t do that by yourself on a taxi ride or a helicopter”, so it was definitely a mistake, a re-shot scene or something. I waited until she popped up again inside the plane and not running around to see if I could spot the long hair, but no.September 27, 2011 at 1:49 am #229059
The helicopter take off was almost as bad as the boat scene in the pilot of Ringer. But overall I enjoyed this very much. I too liked Ricci’s character, and the other girls are interesting as well, with the exception of the cover girl. That story was indeed a bit clichéd. Luckily there’s no man-eating vixen on that crew.September 27, 2011 at 3:59 am #229060
Better than The Playboy Club! (such an easy accomplishment!) I appreciate the effort of these network shows trying to be like Mad Men…I respect it. Of course it doesn’t compare. I also think it’s silly and doesn’t quite work, alas…
Truly though, Pan Am is probably one of the better drama pilots I’ve seen. It wasn’t amazing, but it was enjoyable.
That said, I won’t keep watching until I know it’s been renewed. It’s refuse to committ to network pilots, especially hour long dramas…I don’t want to get attached and then have them cancelled. Been there, done that.

Episode 1×02: “We’ll Always Have Paris”
During a trip to Paris, Laura’s mother tries to settle some unfinished business; Maggie deals with attention from an aggressive passenger; and Dean looks for information on Bridget.October 2, 2011 at 11:10 pm #229062
I am loving this show. It’s becoming my new favorite show. And I love the material Christina Ricci is getting. I mean if she’s billed as lead, hoe come she isn’t getting the major screen time? I hope it elevates because I really love her characterOctober 3, 2011 at 12:30 pm #229063
The mother storyline and those flashbacks bored me to death. I hope they’re done with this now…
I was surprised that they’d cover up that Bridget mystery so early, but whatever.
Overall this show is charming, but nothing more. I don’t know if I will stick around much longer.
