Synopsis: Set in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Queen America is a dark comedy revolving around the triumphs and failures of Vicki Ellis, the most renowned (and ruthless) pageant coach in the state, and the hapless Samantha who hopes Vicki can mold her into a worthwhile contender. It is a dissection of the American Dream as it manifests in the small towns of our country where opportunities are scarce and beauty pageants are often a ticket out. Vicki is desperately sought after by young women competing to be pageant queen royalty for one reason; she can turn any girl into a winner. But when she’s paired with the beautiful but unpolished Samantha, Vicki’s entire reputation is at stake.

The show is starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and is absolutely delightful. Zeta-Jones hasn’t been that good in years. How the hell HFPA dared to snub her (and Lizzie Olsen for SFYL too)? Is it because they have no idea what Facebook Watch is? I know I know… No one has. lol

Are pageants a trending theme rn? Insatiable, Dumplin’, this. Whatever it is, I’m all here for the trashiness, lol. I’ll binge-watch this over the weekend hopefully. Zeta-Jones looks gr8 based on the clips.

Watched it, quite liked it. Zeta-Jones was robbed of a GG nom.

This episode felt so brief, only 25mins. Zeta-Jones is a pleasure to watch, but I think the actress who plays the peagant girl is also rly gr8. I don’t really care much for Zeta Jones’ character’s love life, however I’m more invested in her relationship with her niece. What is Judith Light doing exactly? lol She’s just chilling around every ep with a glass of alcohol in her hand. I mean, I’d love to get paid to do that as well.

So I’ve just finished watching season 1. I think it’s quite a good show. To quote Judith Light in her first appearence, “there is something endearing there”.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is really the main reason to watch “Queen America”. She delivers a strong performance, that’s why I’m hopeful for a season 2 to come out.

That being said, this show lacks some pure comedic moments. Yes, they said it was a comedy but actually I felt it was more a drama. Plus, there is something else that disappointed me : the episodes were too short so it was hard to actually feel some empathy to the supporting characters.

Nonetheless, this ending was quite a surprise. It was not what I expected based on the very first episodes. So the feeling of predictability I had has been completely swept away, which is a good point.

Eventually, the fact that they talked about bulimia is also a good point. It’s not very discussed in movies and TV, right ?

    I give it a 7/10.

An under-rated, very funny – yet dark, too – comedy show. Catherine Zeta-Jones is perfect and was totally robbed of a Globe nod!

I have just started watching this the other day and currently on 9th episode. I was really surprised by how good this is! It has substance and the writing is taking its time with the character developments.

Zeta-Jones of course luminates the series with her skills and charisma. A Judith Light is always welcome.

I really do hope it gets a bigger platform than Facebook Watch. Hopefully (if it’s even possible) Netflix, Hulu or Amazon could acquire or even co-produce this. Really promising series and it picks up on episode 4. The half-hour format totally compliments the pace. I hope they could also bring bigger names of actors on the show. To challenge CZJ more. But really liking this based on 8 episodes.
