The first two episodes aired this week, and both are excellent. Airs normally on Wednesdays at 10 PM ET on OWN. From Ava DuVernay & Oprah Winfrey.September 8, 2016 at 10:49 am #1201918879
Love this show! Loved the direction Oprah is going with “Greenleaf” and now “Queen Sugar”.September 14, 2016 at 11:37 am #1201922303

Excellent third episode. The show is already operating on such a high level with the premise, acting, production design, direction, cinematography, etc., that it’s little to address in fixing. I hope that this series is a major contender next year at the Emmys, b/c it’s that good and deserves the acknowledgment. I’m so accustomed to seeing Rutina Wesley as larger-than-life Tara (miss my summer fix of “True Blood” terribly). Nova is such a different character for her to play, and I’m fsscisnateed by her already. Dawn-Lyen Gardner is a new and compelling face on the scene. Her sections feel the most lived-in to me, but others could see that as being the most clichéd (cheating husband, scandal, budding new flirtation, rebellious teen son, etc.). Kofi Siriboe is a revelation, period. You’re going to see/hear a great deal from him regardless of this series’s plight. I’d rather watch this as a binge than waiting for new episodes every week, but at least it builds up the anticipation. Oprah and Ava have a genuine winner on their hands here that I hope they handle properly in the future.September 22, 2016 at 9:07 am #1201926144
Another strong episode. Things are moving along nicely with the interwoven plots, though Nova’s storyline interests me the least right now. I can see some issues people have with the slower pacing, both to like that they’re letting the cast and story settle well. Not everything needs to be breakneck “Scandal” speed, thankfully.September 22, 2016 at 11:07 am #1201926203
Finally watched episode 1 last night. WOW! So much good there. I can’t wait to watch more.September 28, 2016 at 7:41 am #1201928589

Not too keen on Ralph Angel getting caught up in a work scheme to make money. Seems like an easy way for him to get into more trouble or outright fired. Charley’s storyline is getting more and more compelling, from meeting up with the call girl accuser to making the blunder at the farm auction. Nova’s scenes waver in my interest, but I can’t deny the overall gravity that Rutina Wesley brings to them. The detective guy never stood a chance up against her. Same with Violet’s scenes. Oddly mismatched pairing there too, but Hollywood’s storyline became much more interesting now that Erika Alexander is around (missed her!).October 6, 2016 at 1:26 pm #1201932497
Lots of strong build-up in the past few episodes with some stirring work from Rutina Wesley and the revelations about Davis’s rape allegations with the prostitute finally surfacing. The show is expertly handled and assured throughout. Can’t wait to see how things progress until the season’s end.October 6, 2016 at 6:51 pm #1201932599
I love this show so much. It’s the best show on television.
