This is a shame – but he never really did anything. I am expecting John Milhiser to also get the boot:
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE CASTMEMBER BROOKS WHEELAN SAYS HE WAS FIRED
“Had a blast and loved every second of it,” he announced on Twitter
Brooks Wheelan announcedthat he is will not be returning to Saturday Night Live after one season.
“ Had a blast and loved every second of it,” the 27-year-old comedian tweeted Monday. Wheelan, who did impressions of Kid Rock and One Direction’s Harry Styles on the show, added, “I’m totally honored to be able to make this next joke… FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT!”
A rep for the show said Saturday Night Live does not comment on casting changes, and Wheelan’s management also declined to comment to TIME. The Hollywood Reporter says it confirmed the news with “a source close to Saturday Night Live.”
Future plans for this season’s SNL freshmen Beck Bennett, John Milhiser, Mike O’Brien, Noel Wells and Sasheer Zamata have not been announced.July 15, 2014 at 6:30 am #323263
Oh boy, you’ve stepped in it now lol.July 15, 2014 at 6:57 am #323264
Ha. I liked Brooks Wheelan, but he never really got to do anything, so him not being on next year is hardly a surprise. I really like the CNN article on this, which seems to double as an “it gets better” pep talk by listing cast members who were let go pretty quickly but went on to other successes, like Casey Wilson and Michaela Watkins.July 15, 2014 at 10:27 pm #323265
This is good I suppose – Milhiser never really did anything, Welles sucked at comedy (her only good one being Lena Dunham) and Nasim was never really that good for me – some of her stuff was good, but she never really did anything amazing
‘Saturday Night Live’ Loses Three More Cast Members

News Editor, Variety.com
“Saturday Night Live” has given the boot to two more freshman cast members, and is losing one of its more recognizable players, sources confirm to Variety.
NBC has chosen not to renew the contracts of newcomers Noël
Wells and John Milhiser while Nasim Pedrad, who appeared on the show
for five seasons, is leaving to co-star in the new Fox comedy “Mulaney.”
“SNL” usually trims a cast member or two before its fall premiere, so the terminations aren’t a big surprise.
The news comes after Brooks Wheelan, a first-year cast member, announced on Twitter on Monday that he was fired from the show.
Wells and Milhiser are both veterans of the Upright Citizens Brigade
comedy troupe and were two of six new featured players that joined “SNL”
this past fall.
Pedrad, most known for her impressions of Arianna Huffington and Barbara Walters, is still in business with “SNL” exec producer Lorne Michaels. The “SNL” creator is producing her new Fox comedy, which debuts this fall.
NBC declined to comment.
The “SNL” news was first reported by Deadline.com.July 16, 2014 at 5:00 am #323266
Well I posted all of this on the SNL thread but whatever….Didn’t want to start a new thread because people actually believe they own certain threads, I don’t know who opened that one but I’ve seen people get terribly insulted when others open “their” threads…
Anyway, I forgot to comment on that thread: When the hell are they going to get rid of Kenan Thompson?
I’ll say it again: obvious firings, all of the new men should be fired, from what I saw on Cecily Strong’s instagram she’s dating or dated Mike OBrien, will that be in his favor? And Noelle Wells didn’t really need to be fired…July 16, 2014 at 6:09 am #323267
I’m a bit bummed about Noel Wells. I thought she had a lot of potential. Milhiser and Wheelan are not surprises at all. I hope Pedrad finds acclaim on her new endeavors. She never really broke out the way I assumed she would.July 16, 2014 at 6:54 am #323268
I kinda found Milhiser to be a good addition to the cast….oh well. Pedrad…….thats a loss that they need to fill ASAP.July 16, 2014 at 7:37 am #323269
I always loved Nasim Pedrad, and I feel like the show always underused her.
And let me echo Benito’s comment about Kenan Thompson. I guess he has a few impressions that he does that no one else does, but he really hasn’t had much impact at all on the show, and considering how long he’s been around it seems like time to move on.July 16, 2014 at 8:34 am #323270
Wells and Whelan had potential but were given nothing to do most of the season, and I don’t even remember an act Milhiser was in. Not surprised to see Pedrad go due to Mulaney.July 16, 2014 at 9:31 am #323271
The only things I remember John Milhiser did were (1) doing an impression of Jon Cryer, and (2) playing a stage dad alongside Lady Gaga, and he was excellent in both. He was given too little screentime though.
Wells started really well (Pun intended. Heh.) with her Dunham impression. But now that I think about it, her co-stars may just have been too good, making her look good as well, as Fey and Bayer were absolutely fantastic in that sketch. Wells’ other impressions though I didn’t care about.
Wheelan doesn’t really look like he’d do well in SNL. Idk.
Wishing all the best for Nasim! (I’m quite pessimistic with Mulaney’s show. Based on the trailer I’ve seen, it doesn’t really look that funny.) I will definitely miss Shallon, though.
I hope they keep Kyle and Beck! Mike O’Brien wasn’t really given that much material. Hated some of his sketches, but loved some, so I’m ambivalent with him.July 16, 2014 at 9:52 am #323272
Milhiser made no impression on me. Wheelan could have been good, but I’m not sure if it was his performance, the writing, his writing? Surprised they let Wells go, especially with Pedrad leaving. But the other ladies have been very solid, although Vanessa needs to step it back up. I want Bennett to stay, indifferent on Mooney. But, for the love of all that is good & decent in this world can they please dump Kenan? I just don’t get his appeal and one-note deliveries. He mugs so much, you’d think he was back on a Nickelodeon show.September 9, 2014 at 9:02 am #323273
Okay, so apparently Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea are the musical guests for the premiere episode. There is no host announced yet
Chris Brown is also going to perform as musical guest sometime in October
Taylor Swift will also return as host and musical guest sometime this seasonSeptember 9, 2014 at 9:47 am #323274
Ariana should host too.
