Hopefully none. SNL made a mockery of the supporting acting categories the past 2 years. Create acting categories for variety series if you must, but I want traditional comedies in the supporting categories.

This season is a total mess and making Michael Che and Colin Jost head writers was a big miss steak!

But, IMO, if there’s anyone who deserves a nomination from the cast (aside from Kate McKinnon), it’s Cecily Strong.

What Emmy acting noms do y’all think SNL can get this season?

Expect all of the regular players from last cycle to return next cycle (McKinnon, Jones, Thompson [in the “club” now], Baldwin as long as he does Trump, and let’s say Bryant holds on with high-profile character SHS and others). Next in line should be the unsung heroes of the show: Cecily Strong (probably the best utility player the show has, especially when many of these nominees go “broad,” she’s the audience surrogate), Beck Bennett (he gets many Hader-like characters, and of course his best one with Putin), and Heidi Gardner (featured player no longer! Time for the big leagues!). And as always, fire Kyle Mooney already.

McKinnon, Jones, Baldwin, Thompson, Bryant I’d guess.

Hopefully Cecily can get a nom. I bet McKinnon + Strong for Supporting Actress, and Thompson + Baldwin for Supporting Actor. Wouldn’t be shocked to see Pete Davidson get a nom thanks to his new-found popularity.

There definitely should be a Variety Actor/Actress category. Also, what makes them all “supporting”. Like, if Kate McKinnon appears in every episode, why can’t she go lead? I get it for someone like Baldwin, but usual cast members shouldn’t be filling the Supporting Categories. That’s straight up category fraud.

Umm… most supporting performances appear in every episode. SNL is the definition of an ensemble show, they’re all supporting.

That’s why I’m saying there should be a category for them. I mean, the definition of a “supporting actor” is literally “actor who performs a role in a play or film below that of the leading actor(s)”, which would make no sense in the context of SNL since, well, there’s no lead actor. Create Variety Actor and Variety Actress categories and put them all there.

I wonder if with Aidy’s new Hulu show she gets in lead instead of supporting here. Gardner is for sure worthy but I think she needs another season to make a name of herself before she gets a nom, maybe as the “next Kate McKinnon” the same way McKinnon was the next Kristen Wiig, as I cant see her staying another season. Bennet is more deserving than Thompson IMO, and Kyle Mooney is hilarious and way more worthy than Pete Davidson

    What about Modern Family?

I’d consider Ed O’Neill and Ty Burrell lead actors, Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen lead actresses, and everyone else supporting.

Kyle Mooney is not funny. I love this show, as I have watched it since I was little, and he is the most unfunny multi-season cast member ever. He should be fired.

The problem is that Kyle Mooney, Pete Davidson, and Leslie Jones all have very specific comedic styles which works by themselves but makes them terrible SNL cast members. The three of them should leave, or be fired.

The greatest cast members all had their own personal styles which they brought to their characters but were versatile enough to appear in sketches where they weren’t the center of attention while still being funny. Kyle Mooney, Pete Davidson, and Leslie Jones are all distractions in sketches where they aren’t featured.
