I don’t care for the Redemption idea, I’m a little bored with Coach and Ozzy returning for the zillionth time (not really, but it seems like it), and I’m a bit frightened of there being another Hantz competing. That said, it seems like there’s more of a variety of ages this time, and it’s not so heavily stacked with young model wannabes. I’m hoping that they’ll at least want to play the game more than most of last season’s cast. I’ve been watching since Season 1, so for better or worse, I’ll be watching again!*******************************

Redemption island is the worst thing ever. Bringing coach back is a way for the producers to mock and ridicule a contestant with nasty editing. After last season where a tribe agreed to lose the game to vote out Russell I lost a lot of interest.********************************

yeah tribal council was good, but can someone tell me what Hantz’ deal with Mikayla is? He comes off REALLY creepy and crazy…like he isn’t going to be able to control himself around Mikayla so she HAS to go.*******************************

Hantz 2.0 definitely has some serious issues. I’m glad that Coach realizes this (crap, I can’t believe I’m rooting for Coach now!!) I can see him taking Brandon along with him for awhile in the same role that Phillip played for Boston Rob last season. I just hope Mikayla doesn’t get screwed in the process; I like her because she is industrious and helpful, and basically none of the things that Hantz 2.0 imagines she is.************************************
END OF GOLD DERBY ARCHIVE
Sent to Redemption Island at the end of the first episode: Semhar Tadesse (24, Los Angeles, CA)
ReplySeptember 23, 2011 at 1:52 am #227003Episode title: “He Has Demons”
Original airdate: Sept. 22, 2011
I love the battle between good and evil they have going this season so much that I wrote a blog post about it (http://www.michebelzhollywood.com).
Seriously, though. I love the addition of Coach and Ozzy, unlike some others. I love the addition of former castmates, in general, especially if they have something to add, or if you felt like they were given short-shrift previously. I’m really excited about this season!
Oh, and I don’t think it’s ever been true that someone tried to vote someone else out just because they lusted after them. Very interesting twist. heh
Sent to Redemption Island to battle Semhar in next episode: Christine Shields Markoski (39, Merrick, NY)
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 27, 2011 at 12:29 am #227006The producers should not exploit people who they are depicting as mentally ill. Coach, Philip and now Brandon. If they are depicting them as crazy it is not entertaining. They might need help.
Phillip was nutty. Coach was…Coach, but that was an act. He wanted to be a character. There’s a difference.
Brandon Hantz is disturbing. In my opinion, they should not exploit people who are mentally ill. This guy has not hit age 20 and is talking about his demons and cheating on his wife in his past (HE IS A TEEN!), but he’s awkwardly fixated on Mikayla becase she’s wearing shorts and a sleeveless top and she’s “tempting him.” He’s not a fun type of crazy, he’s scary. He needs to go soon…for my sake.
I am not a fan of Russell, but Brandon is not close to being a good player. I actually prefer Russell over him.
I doubt Brandon even had to go through the psych evaluations, as it’s obvious obvious his last name was key. His serial killer/rapist mentality comes across on the edit. Yikes. (not a joke)
And God forbid we have a season without someone with Hantz as a last name. (still not a joke)

has the fact that Brandon Hantz is a creppy fuc*** been discussed?
Please! Feel free to discuss it!

Am I being mocked? 🙂
I think I discussed it enough for everyone…I have a lot of feelings about that sexist and very insecure ass, forgive me.

No, I was not mocking you. I think it’s an interesting point. I was trying to generate more discussion about it.
I don’ t find him creepy. I think he’s struggling with some things personally, and I find it fascinating how Survivor is giving him an outlet to talk about things that haven’t been talked about in all the seasons of Survivor.
As to this episode, I don’t think I’ve ever (in all these seasons) seen Jeff Probst BORED as when crazy girl was spouting poetry as a way to “calm down” before her challenge. It smacked of when Wesley was on the Bachelorette, singing songs, just to promote his singing career. SO glad she’s gone.
Wins Redemption Island battle: Christine, so crazy poetry-spouting Semhar is thankfully gone

Sent to Redemption Island at the end of this episode: Mark Anthony Caruso (48, Forest Hills, NY) (aka “Papa Bear“)September 29, 2011 at 6:46 am #227010After a terrific start to the season, last night’s episode was a bit of a bore. Brandon feels guilty about the way he’s been acting, so he comes clean, and then he still continues lying and acting like a jerk (yes, to my knowledge, telling Mikayla that “everyone” hates her is a bald-faced lie). Semhar’s “poetry” was crazy-strange, and even the subject matter about taking off her clothes and giving someone “a show” wasn’t enough to wake people from the boredom. After spending almost zero time with Ozzy’s tribe (sorry, I keep forgetting tribe names), the tribal council wasn’t that surprising or interesting.
I think that the Entertainment Weekly recapper made a point last year how the whole structure of the episodes is weakened by the fact that the tribal council, which should be the climactic moment of the show, loses power when it doesn’t mean that someone is out of the game, and the final sendoff at the RI challenge comes in the middle of the show and doesn’t have as much impact as it should. I really think that this is a good point. I’m starting to get used to it, but I really hope they ditch the RI idea.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 29, 2011 at 12:41 pm #227011This episode was a little bit of a bore, but at least we have some contestants with character this season unlike last season. (Cochran is all kinds of annoying.)
Was anyone else surprised at how well Dawn did at the immunity challenge? Sure she struggled but they also showed Papa Bear (also annoying) and Ozzy struggling as well. I’m kind of rooting for Dawn, I always tend to pick the underdog, so I’m hoping she can figure out a way to stay longer.

Missed reporting on this one…
Wins Redemption Island battle: Christine, so Papa Bear gets to eat his porridge alone.
Sent to Redemption Island at the end of this episode: Christine’s buddy, Stacey (Stacey Powell, 44, Grand Prairie, TX).
Episode title: “Taste the Victory”Original airdate: Oct. 12, 2011
Ozzy gets blindsided. Gotta watch out for those romances. Ever since Rob and Amber, people have been wary of a couple gaining power in the show. Just when you think you’re safe….
But I just love both Cochran and Dawn, and hope they last a long time in this game.
Also, Coach and Brandon on the other side.
Wins Redemption Island battle: Christine, so her compadre Stacey is gone.

Sent to Redemption Island at the end of this episode: Ozzy’s squeeze, Elyse (Elyse Umemoto, 27, Las Vegas, NV).October 13, 2011 at 8:24 am #227014That had to be the most disgusting challenge ever. And then they had to take that home and eat it, as a reward? Blech. I hope there were enough injuries that they will not repeat that one. As for Stacey, I would have more sympathy for her if she had used one iota of strategy in her non-existent game. How can she talk about Coach and the others lying and controlling the game when she didn’t even try? And the fact that she and Christine didn’t even at least team up together and vote for the same person in their first tribal council tells me that Christine is just as bad. I do give Christine props for being strong in the RI challenges so far, though.

Coach has
been…Coach, nevertheless
that was an action. He thought

be disturbing. In my
estimation, they should not
necessarily exploit those
people who are mentally not
well. This guy hasn’t

it is talking about his

with cheating about
his better
half in his prior

He must

not a fan of Russell, however
Brandon is not all-around
being a very
good player. I
really prefer Russell above
him.My
spouse and i doubt Brandon also
had to glance
at the psych evaluations, because
it is obvious clear
his surname was crucial.
His serial killer/rapist mindset
comes across around
the edit. Goodness.
(not a laugh)And
Lord
forbid you
will find there’s season without
having someone using
Hantz as a surname. (still not

But I’m glad there’s a thread for this show. I’m liking this season very much. Even though I HATE Redemption Island as a gimmick, wish it would just be forgotten and hope they don’t bring it back next season.
