Looks like a lot of folks got left out of the panel. Waiting outside because the venue was full. Fork NBC/Universal for not insisting on a Convention Center presence for ALL its shows. This should’ve been in Hall H.

Originally, the writers intended to deliver the series finale script to the actors the night before the convention, but Schur realized a table read pre-panel would be emotional — and “Ted would spend the entire panel telling everyone what happens in it.” 😀

Vulture.com writer Jordan Crucchiola summed up SDCC quite neatly here..

Did Anything Pierce the Armor of Your Cynicism About Large Corporate Fan Events?

“I love Comic-Con, so the cynicism never overtakes me. But if I could have brought a Con curmudgeon with me to any one event, it would have been the emotionally restorative experience of watching The Good Place cast and creator cry over how much they love the show and how much they will miss making it. Almost every cast member shared a story that illuminated how and why series creator Mike Schur is an inspiration. The chemistry of the ensemble is exactly what you’d want it to be on your favorite comedy show.

The people onstage and the people in the crowd felt equally invested in and appreciative of the characters and the stories, and everyone is just so damn funny. William Jackson Harper (Chidi) sang the theme song for his dog Chico, and Schur gave a convincing monologue about how much Carden deserved an Emmy nomination. Nearly everyone cried as the cast led the entire room in a standing ovation for a weepy Schur.

For one hour in a convention center, any and all cynicism about fandom and the parade of brands and advertisers seeped out of the room. Amid the Comic-Con madness, it was truly the Good Place.”

Really? A net increase of ONE nomination?

NBC/Universal’s half-day at TCA includes a panel with the Good Place:

From the show’s Twitter feed, unless otherwise noted.

49 minutes ago: Ted Danson and the cast are absolutely filled with respect that #TheGoodPlace is wrapping up with Season 4 because it’s ending with as much integrity as it started.

Showrunner Michael Schur has never felt limited by 13 episodes because the show was designed to move fast. Four seasons felt like the right amount.

“Jason has a very goldfish memory.” – Manny Jacinto on his character

Kristen Bell wiping her tears on William Jackson Harper’s shirt sleeve is nice. It’s just nice! What a nice thing. I’m gonna miss this show.

Harper, Carden, Jamil and Jacinto all agree they had the best cast and leaders on #TheGoodPlace set. And someone just handed Kristen Bell some tissues!! 😢

“I pitched [The Good Place] as an investigation of what it means to be a good person…that’s an even more complicated question than I thought it was.” – Schur.

Jamil says she’s seen Danson literally skip around the set and say, “Aren’t we lucky that we get to do this?”

Schur notes being a good person isn’t only about doing good deeds. It’s about how people function in the world. The mission of the show became giving a bunch of options about ways to be a good person & the important thing is to pick a way and try it.

“The important thing isn’t that you’re being good, it’s that you’re trying.” – Schur.

As at SDCC, the cast say Manny Jacinto makes them break the most.

Kristen Bell: “He makes some of the most out of the box decisions you could ever come up with.”

Jamil: “What’s that sound you make in the [Season 3 blooper reel as a kangaroo]?”
    Jacinto: “Woof woof!” 😂

Filming has officially wrapped and every episode has been made exactly the way Schur, the cast and the crew wanted it.

Both Danson and Bell knew the entirety of season 1, but beyond that they didn’t know anything. Nobody knew where they were going to go, but the writers room was always open!

Kristen Bell got teary, and Ted Danson just got choked up on this final panel. Sniff.

What was different about The Good Place ending was that Danson and the cast knew about it and are sharing the experience of presenting it as a “gift.” 🤲❤️

Breaking news just in from Dublin, Ireland; The Good Place has successfully defended its Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation: Short Form as Janet(s) won. Congratulations to the actors, along with co-writers Josh Siegal and Dylan Morgan plus director Morgan Sackett.

TGP’s triumph is the first repeat winner in the category since Game of Thrones did the double in 2012-13 (Blackwater, The Rains of Castamere). D’Arcy Carden and writer of the OTHER TGP nominee, Jeremy Bearimy, Megan Amram, did a hilarious, way too short acceptance speech via satellite from the show’s set.

Nice tribute by The Paley Center; unprecedented, actually.

    ———————————————–
Marking the fourth and final season of NBC comedy The Good Place, the network and The Paley Center for Media will team for an hour-long special about the series next month.

With clips, interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, The Paley Center Salutes The Good Place will air Thursday, Sept. 19, 8 p.m. ET/PT, one week before the comedy’s final season premiere.

“As it begins its final season, The Good Place has become a cultural touchstone representing the best of television anywhere,” said Doug Vaughan, Executive Vice President, Special Programs and Late Night, NBC Entertainment.

The special will include interviews with the show’s stars, including Ted Danson, Kristen Bell, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, Manny Jacinto and D’Arcy Carden, as well as with creator Michael Schur.

“With its brilliant acting, writing and directing, it’s easy to see why The Good Place has taken its place among television’s most memorable comedies,” said Maureen J. Reidy, the Paley Center’s President & CEO.

The new season of The Good Place will premiere Thursday, Sept. 26, 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the 8 p.m. return of Superstore and the premiere of new series Perfect Harmony starring Bradley Whitford. New series Sunnyside, starring Kal Penn and executive produced by Schur, follows multiple-Emmy-nominated The Good Place.

The “Paley Center” seems to love to salute NBC shows (This Is Us, Will & Grace, NBC’s 90th anniversary, etc.) so I wouldn’t call it unprecedented.
