How the sitcom we never expected gave us the memes we absolutely neededJanuary 31, 2018 at 10:43 pm #1202484717
The bad news; this is the last episode for a sizable chunk of 2018. Yo, NBC/Universal, book these guys at July’s San Diego ComicCon, unlike last year when NBC blew it off entirely. The good? Season 3 is a go. What will the best writers room on TV cook up for THIS farewell?
Episode 2.13: Somewhere Else (season finale)
Guest star: Maya Rudolph
Written and directed by Michael Schur
Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani and Jason’s advocate, Michael, arrives at the Eternal Judge’s chambers in the nick of time, thanks to Janet’s assist in breaking him out of the Bad Place. He’s ready to plead his case to Gen for mercy. Not just for them – himself as well.February 1, 2018 at 12:51 pm #1202485222
Vulture.com: The Good Place Has the Best Acting Ensemble on TV
“At first blush, Mike Schur’s blissfully demented, yet heartfelt sitcom The Good Place reads as a deceptively simple paean to ethics with a singular focus: the redemption of the craven Eleanor Shellstrop (a career-best Kristen Bell).”February 1, 2018 at 8:18 pm #1202485597
Well, that was certainly….different.
EW: A thoughtful Good Place finale changed everything. Again.

Really good episode. Not sure if I liked the ending though. I get what they were going for though even though like many of the shows twists, it was definitely a stretch. Interesting set up for season 3.
On the Emmy front, I’m really wondering if this can breakthrough. It seems to have gained a lot of momentum and is the most acclaimed comedy on TV right now. I might predict Danson and maybe a writing nomination.February 1, 2018 at 9:35 pm #1202485649

Ugh. Wasn’t able to watch live and that Hollywood Reporter headline made me predict what was going to happen. But I still really enjoyed the episode anyway. Hoping Danson and the show breakthrough at the Emmys. Bell was better than last year (I had some problems with her performances in the S1 flashbacks), and I wouldn’t mind if she snuck in. I would also die if D’Arcy Carden got a nom

I am going to be stabbing for D’Arcy Carden so hard. She better get a Gold Derby nomination. She is easily the MVP of the show.
This will definitely make my personal list for Carden and Danson and will at least be a contender for my personal list of comedy ensemble, writing, and comedy series.February 2, 2018 at 1:57 pm #1202486152
The bromance between Mike Schur and Damon Lindelof is the best thing. Both are fans of each other’s shows. There are Lost and The Leftovers easter eggs in The Good Place and Lindelof said there would be tons of The Good Place easter eggs in Watchmen.February 2, 2018 at 5:46 pm #1202486221
My guess; they’re not on Earth, but a simulation of it, waiting to be filled in with moments from each of the four’s lives that were spared (that’s why Chidi spoke fluent English and not a different dialect). Once Michael and Gen square everything away and there’s a track record of how each of them carried on their lives, then they’ll go to either the Good or Bad Place. And that will be the series finale. They’re still dead, IMO, and I don’t think either Michael or the Eternal Judge has the power to bring anyone back to life.
I believe season 3 will be the end of the show. Which is why I felt a bit extra melancholy about it leaving our TV’s last night.February 2, 2018 at 6:14 pm #1202486230
Nice part is, no Thursday Night Football interruption next season as it goes to Fox.

I carefully avoided all previous posts. I just wanted to pop in to say that I’m at episode 2 from the second season, and I’m loving this show so much. It reminds me of You’re the Worst in terms of unpredictability and originality of choices. Both shows can be flawed at time, but I can be very forgiving where in front of me there’s such a display of creativity and smartness. Great, great show.
