HBO’s upcoming drama Vinyl is clearly an homage to one of the most fetishised periods of music: 1970s New York, where the carpet was thick, the coke was pure and the only thing louder than the guitars were the suits.
The city was a now-mythical crucible for three of the most vibrant styles of music ever – punk, disco and hip-hop – all of it borne out of soul and garage rock. No lesser talents than Martin Scorsese and Mick Jaggerare pitching into this heady mix, the former directing the pilot and the pair co-producing. The show follows Richie Finestra, played by Bobby Cannavale, a record exec trying to give his label, American Century, a kick up the backside with a New York Dolls-style punk band. Co-stars include Olivia Wilde, Juno Temple and Jagger’s son James.

Martin Scorsese is the God that we deserve.August 7, 2015 at 1:39 pm #357168
Oh. My. God.
I’m having a moment here…
What the hell?
I feel like I’m in a dream…
This can’t be real – it has to be something fake to tease us. Something this awesome can’t possibly exist.
I’m at a loss for words.
Thank you, Mother Mary. Thank youAugust 7, 2015 at 9:12 pm #357169

Bobby Cannavale is coming for that Emmy nod next year, bitches! Sorry, Michael Sheen. 🙁October 5, 2015 at 12:27 pm #357172
Is this going to be the new big prestige drama, or a great disappointment? I can’t tell. All I know is that Bobby Cannavale is gunning to be the newest Lead Actor, Drama Emmy nominee.October 29, 2015 at 9:21 am #357173
Two hour premiere on Feb. 14 at 9 pm!October 29, 2015 at 10:26 am #357174
I wonder where Westworld (and Divorce) can fit in.
Right after Vinyl wraps we’ll have GoT on Sundays.
HBO doesn’t do much non-Sunday as far as I can tell.October 29, 2015 at 5:42 pm #357175
Wait, wait, wait…If we have to wait to the end of april or early may for GoT, doesn’t that mean that Thrones would be ineligible for the Emmys?.October 29, 2015 at 5:49 pm #357176

If HBO start the new season on April 24, GOT will have six episodes before the end of the eligibility period. It’s enough, right?October 29, 2015 at 7:21 pm #357178
Doesn’t HBO normally put a week between a season finale and the premiere of the next show?….And it looks unlikely that GoT get a premiere date different than Veep and Silicon Valley. And we still don’t know about the date of the Looking movie finale.

I hope GoT doesn’t make the Emmy deadline – it took up too much hot air at this year’s awardsOctober 30, 2015 at 10:48 pm #357180
Guys, no way will Game of Thrones not be eligible. Even in the unlikely scenario that it becomes technically ineligible per the rulebook, HBO will surely appeal and the academy will give in because they are pushovers. As for Veep and Silicon Valley, they do not have to premiere with Game of Thrones. Like it could be a wise decision for the Game of Thrones finale to lead out into a new show. The return of Looking is just fan service, so it is not going to be taking up a precious Sunday slot, especially as HBO seems to be moving away a bit from using that for their movies anyway, like with Bessie and Nightingale. Divorce is not on track for this season, but Westworld was. I guess that it takes the summer slot.
