This category seems the least competitive compared to some of the others, but I thought I’d make a thread about it anyway. So looking at the prediction center, it seems like Kyle Chandler may not be eligible. That leaves only one open spot. Is anyone at risk of dropping out? Who do you have taking Chandler’s place?

Right now, I think all the returning nominees are safe, and I have Jude Law taking that last spot. I think Anthony Hopkins could get in, but his lack of nominations anywhere else discourages me. BBT won the Globe, but I feel like that might just be another example of the Globes and the Emmys diverging. Goliath doesn’t have any buzz. But then again, voters who only watch the first few episodes of The Young Pope would most likely not vote for Law, who doesn’t reach his potential until the last stretch of episodes. Also, the show hasn’t made as big an impact as Westworld.

I can’t really see a clear favourite to win.

This is definitely an odd category this year. I have no idea who will win. I am hoping for Matthew Rhys, but you can never bet on The Americans.

For now I’m going with Hopkins in that 6th slot, with Law not far behind. I think Odenkirk has a decent shot at winning this year.

There is not a clear choice for that 6th slot. I honestly don’t think anybody is safe. I think we could have some really fun surprises in this category: I’m currently thinking that last spot will be between BBT, Jude Law, Justin Theuroux, Dan Stevens, and Joseph Fiennes if he is lead. I would be ecstatic if Justin and Dan could get in.

I can’t see Hopkins getting in. He wasn’t the lead. He wasn’t the best male actor. He didn’t do much. He won;t get name checked because he couldn’t get in for a less competitive category last year. I just can’t see him getting in.

I also think Odenkirk will be slightly out front. From what I’ve seen and heard, I think he’s going to have somewhat meatier material to work with.

I’m praying for a Leftovers explosion! Justin Theroux is amazing! And, somewhat related, I can’t wait to see Carrie Coon in Fargo 😀

BBT is more of a Globes boy, but I can see him getting in.

    Doubting Billy Bob? Sure, Jan.

This would be the perfect opportunity to upgrade Rupert Friend to lead actor with open slots available, but that ship has probably sailed now.
