Since Episode 6 of Bodyguard has already been taken, I’d like to recommend Succession’s 2nd episode, Shit Show at the Fuck Factory. It probably won’t be submitted, but it was perfectly-written.
They should submit the finale and “Which Side Are You On?”tbh but they’ll probably go with the pilot.May 15, 2019 at 1:10 pm #1202895258

Isn’t this for Drama series which excludes AHS since they compete in limited?May 15, 2019 at 2:15 pm #1202895384
I honestly was not particularly impressed by the pilot. It’s one of the lesser episodes of the season.
I just picked the pilot because historically the Emmys tend to go for them and it sets up the series.
Alright, I think I’m going to change my one pick then….
The Good Fight – “The One About The Recent Troubles” (written by Robert & Michelle King)May 15, 2019 at 2:40 pm #1202895436
Bodyguard submitted the pilot for directing and editing at BAFTA, so I suspect that it will submit the same episode for writing at the Emmys instead of the finale that is being recommended here. The pilot is also what Netflix has been screening at its Bodyguard FYC events.
Succession on the other hand has been screening its finale, which is very much a conscious decision for a new show, especially one with a DGA-winning pilot. I personally prefer the pilot, but that is a minority opinion; I expect that they submit the finale for writing instead of the pilot.
I recently inquired about what Homecoming had submitted and the answer is the finale and not “Protocol” as has been suggested in this thread.
“Songbird Road (Part One)” and “Our Little Island Girl” have been suggested for This is Us so far, but again, I doubt that either of these are submitted. It is no coincidence that the only This is Us submissions were written by the showrunners and they are not credited on these two episodes. Also, neither of these episodes were among the four that they have sent voters on a DVD in the current issue of Emmy magazine. A surefire submission is “Vietnam”, given that it is one of creator Dan Fogelman’s only scripts of the season, it was on the DVD and it is the official “spotlight” episode of the show on the NBC FYC screening website.
The Kings figured out a long time ago that submitting only episode is the way to go and they always submit an episode that they wrote, so “The One with Luca Becoming a Meme” is not going to be on the ballot for The Good Fight.
We all know that Game of Thrones has not submitted Bryan Cogman in years.
American Horror Story is the same way. They only ever submit the premiere by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.
I have actually talked to Krista Vernoff about how showrunners tend to submit only their episodes and she expressed disdain for how her episodes were not necessarily submitted under Shonda Rhimes in earlier seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, but now that Vernoff is showrunner, she only submits her episode. Of course she does.
The Expanse did not bother to submit for writing last year, so I doubt that they do this year, especially with the show being cancelled and revived by a different network.
The Killing Eve premiere seems more obvious to me than the second episode and they have the same writer, so they cannot both be submitted.
So I expect most of the scripts that have been suggested in this thread not to be on the ballot. We have confirmation that Pose is submitting the two suggested episodes, The Handmaid’s Tale is submitting its suggested episode, the Killing Eve premiere seems likely and that Kings episode of The Good Fight is possible.
My suggestion is whatever Sex Education submits, probably either the pilot or finale by Laurie Nunn.May 15, 2019 at 3:41 pm #1202895486

I’m seconding Pose’s Love is the MessageMay 15, 2019 at 5:53 pm #1202895574
I’m gonna throw in a third vote for Pose because “Love Is the Message” is a masterpiece, and “Our Little Island Girl” is one of the best-written hours of television this year so I throw a bone there too, but if you’re still looking for more new episodes, I would suggest:
Sorry for Your Loss – “Welcome to Palm Springs”
This is SUCH an underrated show, and if it ends up submitting anything in writing, I would definitely vote for it, but this episode in particular is such a nuanced and interesting look at moving on from relationships and recognizing one’s own hangups. So good!May 15, 2019 at 11:08 pm #1202895792
