Malek was pretty strong this past season of Mr. Robot. It is surprising that he won the Emmy a couple of years back, but was not even nominated for the second season. Is it rare to win an Emmy the way Ramek did and to receive any more Emmy noms? The Lead Actor, Drama category tends to be stacked, but was wondering if Malek could in some way make it back in.

About his chances, he could return because Odenkirk, Hopkins and Spacey are out. But there are also new contenders such as Franco, Smith, Robbins.

Don’t forget Bateman, who is definitely ahead of Franco. Franco couldn’t even get in at the Globes while Bateman hit the Globes and SAG. I actually think Bateman could win as it would fit with what the category tends to go with. If Here and Now is big, I suspect Robbins could win, if he is indeed lead. We also might look out for Donald Sutherland if Trust goes Drama, which could be a possibility based on interviews from the crew.
Forgot both Bateman and Sutherland. Franco will get hurt by the allegations, but we’ll have to see how the Oscars go. And we had 7 nominees last year. Sutherland could easily win in the Limited Series category, but since it’s a drama, he is probably ahead of Franco.

But I wouldn’t confidently say it’s going to compete in drama yet.
Now I’m pretty sure it’s a limited series. Here’s part of the press release back when it was ordered:
<p style=”text-align: center;”>GETTY FAMILY SAGA TRUST PICKED UP AS NEW LIMITED SERIES FOR FX

<p style=”text-align: center;”>Danny Boyle to Direct First Installment of Simon Beaufoy Scripted 10 Episode

<p style=”text-align: center;”>Limited Series Focusing on the 1973 Kidnapping of Oil Fortune Heir John Paul Getty III
And since it’s anthology, it would make sense to be in the limited series category.

I would assume that the story follows the same characters, but in different periods, similar like Fargo in the first two seasons. The first season would be set in the 70s with Sutherland portraying Paul J. Getty in his last days. The second season goes back in the 30s and they will cast a young actor to portray Getty, now aged 35-45.

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 13, 2018 at 8:38 am #1202466372Networks should stop thinking that shows would do better in limited series category than in drama when it comes to awards. It started to become a trend lately.
