I don’t see any mentions for Sharon Stone, here or in any other forums. Everyone is like Paulson and Nixon. I thought Stone was supposed to be the supporting actress standout? Is her role as thankless as I gather it is?

She appears in Episode 3. And basically been in her own world. That’s why more haven’t mentioned.  I have only seen the first 4 so far.

Stylish, colorful costumes, impeccable production design & the equipment reminiscent of the spirit of the era. Nice cinematography. Paulson is good, but something is missing from her portrayal. The character is not similar to the Nurse Ratched I know, which is a big mistake in my book because they are basically trying to sell the series with that name and iconic legacy…The story is a bit slow, I think good editing could have helped make the experience more lively. 40 minutes would be plenty for an episode because, for example, the first episode is 56 minutes, which is just too much for such a long, and yes, sometimes even boring TV Show.

I honestly don’t think that this will be a huge Emmy contender outside of the creative categories. Here I am thinking this not only of my critical judgment but as we have seen in the case of shows like Mrs. America (which is a much more inviting, much more topical with bigger names and more popular actors), the TV Academy simply does not follow through most shows even during the lockdown, so if they would only watch the first few episodes of this series, it’s not really promising for its Emmy chances. The first episode in particular was just mediocre all around.

The Politician, Hollywood, and now Ratched…Netflix should have Ryan Murphy refund the $300 million.

Daily Beast wrote an article exactly on that topic FWIW

I finished the whole season. I would say that I enjoyed the ride and I like their tease on the second season. Regarding possible acting nods that they will get, I would say Sarah Paulson, Jon Jon Briones, Judy Davis, Sophie Okonedo, and Cynthia Nixon.

I watched the premiere last night, and while it had issues (which I expected), it’s far from terrible like the reviews made it out to be. It’s unabashedly campy and not topical, which is why it works (and why The Politician and Hollywood didn’t always work). It’s thrilling, stylish, fast-paced and much more; I liked the over-the-top-ness of the opening scene! Paulson was terrific as expected, but the sets, costumes, locations (!!) — that view from Mildred’s motel/hotel was stunning — , the cinematography, the makeup — you name it were all breathtaking as well. It’ll get a boatload of tech noms. The score was occasionally strong, but it was too much sometimes. Curious to see where this goes.

I watched the second episode and enjoyed it better than the first. For one it was much better paced and Nixon definitely had a lot to play with than she did in the first one.

Is Annie Starke good in this?! I know she’s only in 3 episodes and she’s not a big name, but is her performance good enough for a (possible) Guest Actress nomination?

Checked out the pilot yesterday and didn’t care for it. Much like many Murphy shows, in terms of acting and tech, it’s all perfectly sound (though Wittrock was surprisingly very off and the South Pacific mood lighting doesn’t work), but the writing was not good.

Honestly, my biggest issue is why is this story even about Nurse Ratched? Aside from being an evil nurse, this character doesn’t feel particularly similar to her, and the setting, style, and basically everything seen here is so wildly different from everything in Cuckoo’s Nest that I never thought that this story fit in that world, which is a must for prequels and continuations.

She’s ok but she has too small a role to be nominated.

It’s a shame because even though The Wife wasn’t that great I’m in the minority who thinks she should have been nominated at the Oscars in S. Actress that year.

That’s a shame. I had high hopes for her.

Well, You’re not alone. I also share that opinion. I thought she was great and I hope she keeps getting roles in mainstream shows. I hope to see her as the lead or one of the central roles in a huge production, one day. And movies as well.

at least he is cranking out projects .. same thing can’t be said of Shonda Rhimes . That show they announced seems like it was announced 3 years ago and no hint of when its coming out.

Sophie Okonedo was incredible in this, her facial acting specifically was perfect. I’m afraid her performance might be too much for voters.

Okonedo was also fantastic in her episode of the second season of Criminal: UK which also dropped this week on Netflix.
